Drafting Technologist - 16 Month Contract

Tridon Communications is currently seeking a Drafting Technologist to cover a 16-month contract based out of our Edmonton Head Office.

Job Summary:

The primary accountability will be to provide drafting support to the Radio and Telecommunications Engineering and Project Management Teams by preparing drawings from sketches, pictures and other information. The incumbent will also redesign, modify or otherwise edit existing drawings, as well as operate plotters and scanners. This role will also have responsibility for Document Control and will be responsible for the collection, classification, retrieval and retention of records, images, documents, and information for various project. This will include checking documents, scanning, photocopying files, and making sure that organizational documentation is stored safely and securely.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Drafting Technologist:

  • Prepare engineering designs and drawings using CAD, CAD LT, and MS Visio from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, and other industry data
  • Redesign, modify or otherwise edit existing drawings
  • Load and retrieve drawings and other documents into the document management system
  • Submission package preparation and coordination
  • IFC drawings, Record Drawings and related documentation
  • Develop 2D reference models and setups
  • Carry out as-built versus design reviews
  • Ensure drawings conform to CAD standards, specifications and industry data
  • Complete documentation packages and construction drawing sets, within a timely manner
  • Examine drawings for conformity and errors
  • Operate plotters and scanning equipment

Document Control Responsibilities:

  • Collect, scan and upload documents following set procedures
  • Ensure all technical documents, such as reports, drawings, and blueprints, are collected and registered in system
  • Use Document Management software for everyday operations, maintenance, and quality control
  • Notify personnel of updated document versions and how to access them
  • Print and distribute documents as necessary
  • Work with documents and records across various departments
  • Create document filing and organizing systems that are both effective and efficient
  • Classify, code, cross-reference, log, and store records
  • Maintain access lists for security classified records
  • Manage and maintain all controlled company documents
  • Update and control procedure documents and forms
  • Create and manage document hierarchy and process systems
  • Ensure revised documents are accessible
  • Train employees in the controlled document processes to ensure correct handling of documents from the ground up
  • Collaborate and communicate with managers and project leaders

Must Haves:

  • 2 year Diploma in Design and Drafting or a Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 5 years of experience in using AutoCAD for Design and Drafting including standardized drafting practices
  • ASET certification is preferred
  • 2 years of experience with document control, records management or archive management
  • 1 – 2 years of experience or training in the communications field is preferred
  • Valid driver's license required with a clean drivers abstract for the past 5 years
  • Excellent computer drafting and drawing
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft products: PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel and similar
  • Detail-oriented and meticulous work ethic
  • Extremely organized and efficient
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication
  • Proven skill for creating and implementing controlled document processes
  • Work well under pressure and can manage deadlines
  • Inclination for catching errors and enacting appropriate changes
  • Outstanding time-management
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work across multi functions / teams ensuring successful project deliveries
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Physical Demands:

Must be able to spend most of the day sitting however, walking, and standing occasionally. The incumbent will also be required to look at a computer screen for long periods of time. There is a possibility of eye and/or joint strain related to operating computer equipment

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: 25.00-$35.00 per hour
