We are seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead our human resources initiatives. In this role, you'll drive strategic HR planning, cultivate a positive organizational culture, and ensure that our HR practices align with our core values of respect, dignity, and community inclusion.

This is a full time, in-office position, located at our office at 220 Cranbrook Drive, Hamilton ON.

Position Summary:

As a member of the leadership team, the Human Resources Manager will lead the human resources department of the organization in a way that will continually strengthen the health of the organization and contribute to realizing the vision through effective strategic human resources programs and services. Being a facilitative leader, you will integrate a diversity, inclusion, and equity lens across all organizational strategies.

As a trusted coach and hands-on human resources leader, you will be responsible for delivering professional and superior internal service by partnering with teams at all organizational levels to support HR matters, including; talent management programs, labour relations, interpretation of HR policies and procedures, collective agreements, employment legislation, grievance and arbitration management, performance management, workforce planning, compensation, WSIB management, Health and Safety practices, benefits, retirement and pension plans.

Responsibility Overview:

  • Contribute to Rygiel's mission, vision and strategic plans related to People and Culture.
  • Implement a People Strategy focused on Recruitment and Retention and collaboratively implements initiatives encompassing full-cycle recruitment, on-boarding, performance management, talent development and coaching.
  • Lead and provide guidance to managers and supervisors in performance management, application of collective agreement and HR policies.
  • Oversees the Disability Management program including the development and continuous improvement of key initiatives.
  • Actively participates in labour management committee, grievance process and dispute resolution for union and non-union groups.
  • Manages all aspects of collective bargaining.
  • Fosters a culture of transparent communication to facilitate the change management process and provides HR metrics for objective decision making.
  • Consults and supports managers with employee conflict including corrective actions, employee and labour relations investigations and disciplinary issues.
  • Oversees employee engagement and wellness initiatives including group benefit programs and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Responsible for legislative compliance and policy management.
  • Represents Rygiel in the community activity participating in the development sector community to share best practices.
  • Manages the vacation planning process and leaves of absence approvals.
  • Any additional responsibilities and/or projects may be added as the Agency and position evolves or the current circumstances require.

Education, Designations and Experience:

  • Diploma and/or bachelor's degree in human resources management or business specialization.
  • Minimum 5 years of Human Resources Leadership experience with CHRP or CHRL designation is an asset.
  • Experience working on grievance resolution and in a unionized environment.
  • Strong demonstration of ability to consult, influence and partner with staff in developing and/or executing people strategies to drive business performance.
  • Solid foundation of Labour and Ontario employment laws, current HR practices and the ability to use knowledge proactively in consulting with stakeholders.
  • Ability to anticipate changes required within the organization and to drive such changes in partnership with organizational leaders.
  • Strong facilitation skills to train virtually and in person for both management and leadership audiences.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, discretion and initiative in dealing with confidential, sensitive information and/or in responding to inquiries.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing Values Based (social role valorization) training.

Skill and Requirements:

  • Strong problem-solving skills coupled with the initiative to seek out answers and overcome obstacles.
  • Ability to develop a strong relationship with union representatives built on trust, respect and honesty.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities.
  • Must be adaptable and capable of managing stress in a fluctuating environment.
  • Self-directed individual with strong initiative.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in policy development, preparing professional letters, ad hoc reports and effectively presenting information to senior management and Boards.
  • Proficient with various computer programs including Cloud-based database management, email, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to build a strong rapport with the senior team, staff, union and people supported.
  • A current, original copy of a clean vulnerable sector Criminal Records Check is required prior to start.
  • Up-to-date certification or willingness to be trained in CPR, First Aid, Fire Safety and WHMIS.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
