Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Field Service Technician is responsible to commission, test and maintain primary and secondary power equipment in the field which includes medium to high-voltage equipment such as breakers, switchgear, circuit breakers, switches, instrument transformers, surge arresters, generators, relays, and transformers utilizing specialized test equipment(Megger, Doble, Vanguard, Omicron, AEMC, HV diagnostics, etc. The Field Service Technician is also responsible to mentor and educate team members on reading and interpreting blueprints, risk management, electrical testing theory and industry testing practices. The Field Service Technician also plays a leading role in the operational support of various clients.
Responsibilities
- Perform work safely to test and maintain client assets and provide recommendations
- Acceptance and maintenance testing of electrical equipment
- Install, commission and maintain substation apparatus and protection and control equipment in medium to high-voltage substations following NETA Acceptance & Maintenance Standards
- Interpret blueprints, analyze test reports and recommend corrective actions
- Write technical reports to present results of tests conducted on apparatus and provide recommendations based off test results
- Perform comprehensive testing on medium and high voltage equipment such as circuit breakers, switchgear, cables, transformers, switches, PTs/CTs, surge arresters and control circuits for protection, indication and monitoring systems
- Be able to work with various types of manufacturer's test equipment
- Troubleshoot control systems based off schematic and wiring diagrams and provide solutions
- Must be willing to respond to emergency callouts in a timely manner
Requirements
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
- Certification as a Journeyperson Electrician or Journeyperson Power Systems Electrician considered an asset
- Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Medium-High Voltage Technical Field Service required
- Familiar with site drawings and interpreting schematics
- Familiar with apparatus as well as protection and control devices found in utility and industrial settings
- Competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets.
- Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
- Demonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety issues in the workplace.
- Must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and have a valid Class 5 driver's license.
- Able to work comfortably at heights
- Able to work alone or with minimal supervision
- Willing to work out of town and on rotation
