Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the HSE Superintendent and Site Management, the HSE Coordinator's responsibility is to facilitate the implementation and monitor site-specific Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems at assigned sites. The HSE coordinator's job is to ensure the organization is supported by delivering a high-quality service that meets the expectations and needs of internal customers and the ownership. This individual must consistently convey mature professional judgment and be competent in safety management systems, applying them in a work setting with minimal to no supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Stop and/or intervene with all unsafe work you may come across.
- Assist with on- and off-site safety as directed by Management.
- Assist with daily toolbox talk and monthly team meetings.
- Keep up to date on OH&S rules and regulations.
- Ensure BME's Safe Work Execution Plans (SWEP) are current and up to date.
- Ensure that all BME's safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are followed and recommend changes as required by senior management.
- Intervene and report employee deviations from safety procedures and regulations to the BME management team.
- Follow up on newly hired employees to ensure that all required training and testing have been completed and documented. Ensure all site training requirements have been met.
- Assist with Injury Case management as needed.
- Investigate and compile Incident Investigation Reports promptly and in accordance with the BME Incident Management Standard.
- Perform site inspections daily.
- 70% of the workday will be in the field.
- Review FLRA's, JSA's, and pre-trips daily.
- Compliance auditing.
- Participate in HSE standard development and training.
- Track and report HSE performance for the site(s) you are assigned to by maintaining the assigned Stat tracker for your site(s).
- Attend all HSE-related meetings and represent BME in a professional HSE capacity.
- Advise operational management on HSE-related queries when needed.
- Comply with all formal communication and reporting expectations as laid out in BME's policies and department standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Active NCSO certification or OHS Cert/Diploma.
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience.
- CSTS and OSSA or BSO or CSO.
- Minimum 2 years experience in the safety field.
- Familiar with the oil sands industry.
- Possess a valid class 5 operator license with a clean driver abstract.
- Must successfully pass BME driver's evaluation, D&A, and fit for duty screening.
Additional Requirements
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (word, excel, PowerPoint). A proficiency test may be required.
- Clear and precise verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to handle shifting and conflicting priorities and multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Have excellent organizational skills. A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Be a solution-oriented individual who can work both independently with minimal supervision, within a team environment.
- Ability to demonstrate a personal commitment and positive attitude to the safety team.
