Are you the one were looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Provincial Youth Outreach Worker to join our Brantford Team who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients, families, and each other.

The Provincial Youth Outreach Worker Brantford will work with the Provincial Youth Outreach Workers teams in providing supports to youth and families to better navigate and connect with services and pro-social opportunities in their communities to improve youth outcomes. This position is responsible for community outreach, prevention, and intervention with at-risk youth and building neighbourhood and community capacity to engage and serve youth better.

This position is a unionized, full-time, temporary position. The contract is from January 6, 2025, to January 5, 2026. The rate of pay is $22.34 per hour. Hours per week are 40. This position works primarily Tuesdays to Saturdays, 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Reach out and engage at-risk youth in accordance with the Stages of Change intervention model adapted for the Provincial Youth Outreach Worker program.
  2. Support youth to connect to programs, services, and opportunities for healthy development.
  3. Engage with parents and family members through self-referrals, parent groups, faith communities, etc., and provide information on supports and services available to youth and families.
  4. Maintain collaborative working relationships with other professionals within and outside of the organization.
  5. Work with youth, parents, family members, schools, police, and youth service providers to advocate for and improve access to programs, services, and opportunities for youth.
  6. In collaboration with Wesleys Manager of Community Youth Services and the YOW team:
    1. Develop a composite picture of neighbourhood demographics and build maps of services, programs, and community assets available in the local community.
    2. Provide community awareness of the Provincial Youth Outreach Worker program and maintain a recognizable community presence.
    3. Build partnerships with community agencies, businesses, and informal community groups to offer programs that engage youth to develop their knowledge, skills, and interests (e.g. arts and culture, volunteering, civic engagement, recreation, etc.).
    4. Identify emerging issues, service gaps, and opportunities for action to build community capacity.
    5. Identify staff development/training needs and participate in staff development/training programs as required.
  7. Enter and maintain accurate and complete service data in the Outreach Record in a timely manner.
  8. Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and diverse needs, identities, and cultural backgrounds of at-risk youth in underserved communities.
  9. Experience with utilizing social media (Instagram, TikTok) to share resources, opportunities, and program information would be an asset.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

What you will bring:

  1. A Child and Youth Worker Diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience working with youth is preferred.
  2. Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and diverse needs, identities, and cultural backgrounds of at-risk youth in underserved communities.
  3. Knowledge and a clear understanding of the historical and intergenerational trauma of the Indigenous people of Turtle Island.
  4. An understanding of the issues faced by the urban Indigenous community.
  5. Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous community supports and services for youth and local youth populations.
  6. Skill in establishing trusting relationships with youth.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and negotiate effectively with a range of community groups and service providers across sectors.
  9. Community development experience.
  10. Knowledge and skill in planning and delivering group programs and workshops.
  11. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed. The schedule is primarily Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
