Job Summary:
Configures and estimates complex mechanical systems. The mechanical estimator supports the sales team on strategic projects that develops our new project base. He/She also estimates Mechanical jobs for small to mid size opportunities, bid spec and retrofits. This individual has an advanced knowledge of Mechanical systems and networks, etc to provide clients with innovative solutions. The Mechanical estimator accurately estimates labor and material job costs and provides technical support and advice to Sales and Operations teams. He /She acts as external liaison working with clients and maintains high levels of customer satisfaction as directed. The Mechanical estimator develops and maintains engineering design and pricing resources for field sales teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and respond to client technical support inquiries.
- Provide RFP/RFI support to potential clients accurately and efficiently.
- Price bid spec mechanical opportunities.
- With sales, operations and project managers, completes site surveys to determine specific client needs and ensure project requirements are met including safety standards. Designs, configures and estimates systems for Sales Team.
- Assists sales by providing project labor and equipment costs, counts, ensuring part number accuracy and assembling permit packages. Values projects by product and installation and creates scope documents (prime to subcontractors and vice versa).
- Provides operational and troubleshooting advice as needed. Provides subcontractor assistance by evaluating customer site system requirements and accurate job estimates. Researches and develops alternative, improved solutions when possible.
- Act as external liaison for owners, general contractors, sub-contractors and trades people as needed. Facilitates project turnover meetings between assigned sales and operations employees.
- Stays abreast of and educates others on new product information. Develops and maintains resources for sales and operations team including technical library, cut sheets, manuals and vendor product information. Assists in establishing pricing including verification of subcontractor/vendor costs.
- All other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of Mechanical estimating experience with knowledge of Air conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration, Steam, Hydronic and Sheetmetal systems
- Post secondary technical degree, 313A Refrigeration Journeyman License, Plumbing Journeyman License 306A, G1- TSSA Gas License or Professional Engineer designation is an asset
- Familiarity with Building code, Plumbing code and B52
- Background in responding to client inquires in a similar setting
- Effective customer service skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Office applications; Excel is essential
- Familiarity & understanding using computerized estimating software
- Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task, work within a fast-paced environment, and prioritize conflicting demands
