About the position

Location: Brantford, ON, Canada

Shift: 3PM to 11PM

This position will be based in Brantford, Canada. Above all, the Sanitation Operator is to work safely by observing all safety rules, including proper utilization of lock out tag out. The Sanitation Operator position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the building, equipment, fixtures, and furnishings using Sanitation practices such as but not restricted to: Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) and Clean in Place (CIP) and clean out of place (COP). Perform routine maintenance including vacuuming; sweeping, and mopping floors; dusting, washing walls, doors, and windows, emptying trash, power washing, scrubbing floor and other needed areas. Reports major repair and maintenance needs.

Core Responsibilities:

Safety

  • Knowledge and understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and company policy, systems, practice, and the legal responsibility placed upon individuals.
  • Ensure that procedures and practice adhere to safety policy and legislation.
  • Wear the required PPE while performing all job duties.
  • Certain tasks require additional PPE including but not limited to, gloves, apron, waterproof boots, goggles, and a face shield.
  • Complete basic chemical safety training.
  • Must actively contribute to the safe working environment.
  • Safe, licensed operation of powered industrial vehicles including movement and operation of a forklift.
  • May be required to complete or contribute to S-EWO and associated paperwork.
  • Complete work at heights training and pass the evaluation, safely perform responsibilities that fall within work at heights guidelines.

Workplace Hazards

  • Utilize appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products, and equipment relevant to the tasks in your area.
  • Associates performing this role may have additional exposure to high temperatures, pressure, and concentrated cleaning chemicals.
  • Work areas include conveyors and power industrial vehicles.
  • Work areas include machines that start and stop automatically.
  • Must not use chemicals not approved and without MSDS or non-assessed by a non-routine task assessment.

Quality

  • Knowledge of product quality and food safety procedures for the production lines.
  • Perform and accurately record sanitation paperwork, including concentration titrations.
  • Understands and adheres to color coding policies and reports non-compliance observed.
  • Initiate and complete SNCRs as vendor sourced issues are identified.
  • Prioritizes Consumer Safety by adhering to the strict Food Safety and GMP requirements set by the company and may halt activities when there is potential risk for noncompliance.
  • Participate in the FS agenda through collaboration FS Team and their tasks.
  • Participated in investigations of FS / Q Incidents.
  • Participate in new SOPs / SSOPs creation or revision of existing ones.

Operational Activities

Start-Up:

  • Carries out verification to ensure the area and equipment are clean and in safe condition per the established procedure.

Shutdown:

  • Verify process shutdown is properly done to start up. This is executed after taking over the line.

Cleaning:

  • Performs cleaning and inspections as per schedule of areas assigned or as per business requirements, documenting actions completed, and any source of contamination identified.
  • Performs regular activities to maintain GMP standards throughout facility, as assigned.
  • Full knowledge and understanding of CIP circuits on how to perform general sanitation cleaning, including flushing B-Units and lines, MPUs, and case packers and to ensure prevention of leaks.
  • Spray balls, PM tanks outside, covering sensors, and cleaning of hot box re-Melter station.
  • Full knowledge and understanding of the system that manages CIP and all relevant screens.
  • Full knowledge and understanding of proper way to cover and protect critical equipment prior to cleaning and removing protection after inspection.
  • Full knowledge and understanding of how to correctly disassemble, clean and reassemble various piping valves, strainers that are part of the cleaning process.
  • Perform cleaning based on MSS (Master Sanitation Schedule) requirements.
  • Material Availability – Maintains supplies in sanitation and storage cages throughout the facility using 5S standards.
  • Application of Housekeeping and 5S methodology on areas under responsibility.
  • Cleaning the draining system of the factory.
  • Cleaning areas surrounding tanks and cluster valves in the Milk Room, Premix Room and Oil Room.
  • Cleaning areas surrounding trunk line and shrink wrapper and palletizers.
  • As per requirements, support of cleaning exterior perimeter of the factory
  • Other duties as assigned.

Operation:

  • Conducts effective hand-over activities and records accurately events that have occurred during shift.
  • Completes all required paperwork as the relevant work is performed.
  • Full understanding of the FRP tank oil transfer from remelter
  • Inventory of sanitation supplies of all GMP areas.
  • Lead the garbage handling in the factory.

Environmental

  • Follows proper containment and reporting procedures and escalates any environmental release as soon as they are known, this includes releases to internal drains.
  • Reduce costs due to waste and minimize impact to health, safety, and the environment through working to eliminate waste and through the correct management of waste and hazardous materials.
  • Must actively contribute to an eco-efficient environment including, but not limited to disposing of materials in the appropriate waste streams.

Problem Solving

  • An awareness of how to identify, prioritize and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques that eliminate recurrence.

Teamwork

  • Must be a good team player capable of working within a highly effective team; responsible, supportive, and able communicator. Embrace for a cultural change.

World Class Manufacturing (WCM)

  • An awareness of how to use performance measures to identify and prioritize losses in production area; provides description of problems and can provide monitoring of process or line issues.
  • May be required to complete or contribute to EWO and associated paperwork.

Tools and Equipment

  • Licensed operation of required powered industrial vehicles including forklift.
  • Basic knowledge of standard and metric hand tools, including Allen wrenches, box end wrenches, pliers, and screwdrivers is required for some activities.
  • Basic computer skills to work on HMI software and troubleshooting of pumps and valves.
  • Cleaning supplies including but not limited to water hoses, chemical cleaning agents, towels, squeegee, brushes, dust pans, brooms, etc.

About you!

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 2 years' experience preferably in a food manufacturing plant.
  • Valid Forklift License (an asset)
  • Training in a related technical field (i.e., industrial manufacturing, general maintenance, etc.)
  • Mechanical ability and experience using hand tools.
  • Willing to work flexible shifts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well within a team environment.
