Summary of Position:
The Rail Scanner scans vehicles within the yard with a mobile inventory scanner and inspects inbound vehicles for damage.

Essential Functions, Duties and Tasks:
- Inspect inbound vehicles for damages
- Photograph and reports on damages
- Count blocks and report number of vehicles with double chocks to dispatcher
- Audit offloaded vehicles for Associate of American Railroad (AAR) standards
- Scan vehicles with the mobile device for yard inventory (e.g., complete yard inventory, lost or mis-zoned vehicles), and during hold campaigns
- Clean van interiors
- Fuel vans - record and report date, van number and liters of fuel
- Assist yard supervisors or dispatchers (e.g., offsite locations, start vehicles, clear windshields, tire changes, vehicle batteries, yard cleanup, rail seals, prep travelers)
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment, including scanners, tools, work vans, rail yard etc.
- Notify management of any workplace hazards, or unsafe conditions
- Other tasks as assigned
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Required:
- Exhibit behaviour and conduct that fosters a positive work atmosphere
- Ability to interact with others effectively and communicate diplomatically
- Ability to read, write and interpret documents (e.g., Safety Data Sheets, locations cards, work orders, vehicle identification numbers, etc.)
- Ability to effectively react to change and work in a variety of situations
- Ability to adhere to quality standards and safe work practices
- Ability to work with limited supervision
Education, Experience, and Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Minimum one year driving experience
- Ability to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles
- Valid full G driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to pass the AWC Safe Driving Quiz

- Work primarily conducted outside - must work, walk and drive in all types of weather, including extreme weather conditions
