About the Role:

The Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) Program provides a long-term, affordable housing solution with flexible and voluntary support services offered to support high-acuity individuals who are homeless with housing retention and independent living. This Support Staff role will work on-site, and is dedicated to serving tenants of the PSH Program located in Guelph.

The Housing Support Staffs primary responsibilities are to ensure the mental and physical safety and wellbeing of the tenants in the program, support other staff with various needs, facilitate psychoeducational groups as needed, and complete various administrative tasks. Additionally, Housing Support Staff will assist with ensuring the trauma-informed and harm-reduction model is upheld at all times. Housing Support Staff will work rotational 10-hour shifts, on two teams. Hours of work include working days/evenings, or early overnight/late overnight. Staff working on the day/evening rotation, participate in a mandatory on-call rotation in addition to their regular hours of work.

Compensation is enhanced when staff work overnight hours (shift premiums apply to overnight hours). Some weekend and holiday (stat holiday) work required as part of the rotation.

Role Type: Full time Overnight, Permanent - 1 vacancy

Hours of Work: FT - Overnight

  • Housing Support Staff work on two teams, on a four (4) week rotation including working every second weekend (7 shifts over 14 days)
  • The overnight rotation will be inclusive of two weeks scheduled from 7pm-5am, and two weeks scheduled from 11pm-9am

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a College Diploma or University Degree relevant to mental health, addiction, or Social Services
  • Minimum six months of progressive experience in addictions or mental health; experience in concurrent disorders or trauma informed practice an asset
  • Previous experience in housing support an asset
  • Previous experience with justice-involved individuals preferred
  • Food Handlers Certification is an asset
  • Lived experience related to addictions and/or mental health an asset
  • Valid G Drivers License (G2 or greater) required
  • Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record required
  • CSC Clearance conducted by PWGS Canada
  • Standard First Aid/CPR Level C
  • Reliable vehicle/own transportation required; willingness to transport clients to appointments in personal vehicle (overnights excluded)
  • Mandatory on call duty, on a rotational basis
  • Must be able to attend work (travel to PSH building) within an hour of notification, when on call (overnights excluded)

Role Overview:

Client and Program Support

  • Support tenants in daily activities as well as outings and visits
  • Provide mental health and crisis support
  • Interact with tenants and support individual treatment plans
  • Lead and participate in programs
  • Facilitate crisis intervention and supportive counseling
  • Facilitate recreational and psycho-educational program areas
  • Provide access for tenants storing medication and complete related documentation
  • Transportation of tenants off property to scheduled appointments, in support of program activities (outings) and to attend medical treatment on an as needed basis
  • Support planned and unplanned tenant discharges
  • On a rotational basis, provide on-call services during evenings and weekends (Full Time only; Overnight staff excluded)

Administrative Support

  • Administrative supports for tenants
  • Make referrals to internal and/or external programs or services, as appropriate
  • Complete required documentation (example: program notes, Incident Reports, etc.)

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform light housekeeping chores including laundry, clean staff offices, etc.
  • Support Health and Safety practices
  • Provide peer mentorship and coaching to the team
  • Conduct/inform staff briefing in between shifts
  • Attend all mandatory training programs and team meetings
  • Receive delegation from Clinical Staff to support tenant Individual Support Plans
  • Maintain professional boundaries and relationships
