Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Packer performs duties related to packing and re-packing of products while verifying that the products meet the company's quality standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Setup the film and packaging equipment
  • Closely monitor machines for signs of problems while ensuring output is meeting set specifications.
  • Remove completed products from conveyors and manually pack good into bags, boxes or other containers.
  • Mark, record, and report defective products.
  • Assist operators, packers and/or lead hands with, but not limited to, change overs, blade changes, emptying cores, stamping boxes, changing papers, changing end rolls.
  • Work as a team with operator and/or Lead Hands to ensure machine outputs meet production schedule, safety, maximum efficiency, and quality standards.
  • Support other coworkers with tasks if needed, including, but not limited to cleaning, stacking boxes, troubleshooting.
  • Help operator lift shafts on slitter 3.
  • Maintain a clean working area free from dirt and debris between tasks and at end of day. Including, but not limited to, changing papers, cleaning cores from core box area, cleaning conveyor belts, vacuuming core boxes, cleaning shafts.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete and on-time delivery.
  • Ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency.
  • Follow manufacturing and processing procedures, carry out production and inspection processes.
  • Check output to identify any quality issues and communicate with lead hand, supervisors, engineers, production control, quality and other shop personnel to resolve equipment or quality issues.

  • Ensure proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
  • Work safely in and around machinery.
  • Clean racking and other areas of the plant (not necessarily their own department)
  • Cycle counts
  • Training other employees
  • Additional duties as required.

Work Conditions

  • Must be able to work a rotating flexible schedule including days, evenings, overnights and weekends.
  • Ability to perform repetitive and heavy lifting (up to 55 pounds)
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand printed material.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions
  • Lifting, moving or manipulating objects
  • Ability to meet consistent attendance.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of manufacturing experience an asset
  • Work well independently and in a team setting
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Good understanding of production procedures
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
  • Strong technical, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
