The Loader Operator is responsible for the Front-end loader, ensuring the safety of themselves, others, and equipment, while feeding hog fuel or strand reclaim into the mill. They handle products including fines, hog fuel, and yard clean up, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
What You'll Do:
- Operate the Front-end loader efficiently and safely, following all operational procedures and safety standards
- Use specialized attachments like buckets, or grapples to handle different types of materials
- Conduct daily inspections of equipment including fluid level, hydraulic systems, lights, etc., and complete pre-start checklists
- Transport hog fuel from the storage pile and onto the conveyor system using the Front-end loader, in a safe and efficient manner
- Move wood waste using the Front-end loader from the collection area into the burner yard and baghouse
- Wash bucket loader as required, to ensure cleanliness and prevent fires initiated by the build up of wood waste and debris
- Practice minor adjustments or repairs to equipment that's being operated, and assist Millwrights and Mechanics with repairs when requested
- Perform regular site maintenance and housekeeping tasks, including cleaning up the log yard, snow plowing, ditch cleaning, etc.
- Check the fine bunkers daily, and remove material as required to maintain an organized storage area
- Respond to a fire situation with the bucket loader, to remove and spread material as required
- Remain attentive, practice hand-eye coordination and multitasking skills such as operating equipment while observing signals from a colleague over a two-way radio
- Communicate with team members, truck drivers, and mill personnel to coordinate operations effectively
- Ensure safe loading and unloading practices to avoid spills or contamination
- Report any issues, or irregularities to the supervisor promptly
What You Will Need:
- Experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator
Would be considered an asset:
- High School Diploma
- Experience in the forestry or manufacturing industry
Skills:
- Hand-eye coordination
- Communication – verbal and written
- Ability to analyze a situation, evaluate options, and make a calculated decision in a timely manner
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a team
- Personal Commitment to Safety
- Experience in the forestry or manufacturing industry is considered an asset
