West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Our High-Level Division in Alberta is currently recruiting for a Millwright Apprentice.

Our Millwright Apprentice is a key player in a company-wide continuous improvement effort through daily use of troubleshooting, and predictive and preventative maintenance strategies. As a member of this high performing team, you will be responsible for being a team player and working safely with all machinery within the mill.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist senior Millwrights in performing repairs, installations, and maintenance of mechanical equipment and machinery in industrial and construction settings
  • Learn how to interpret and follow blueprints, schematics, and manuals
  • Perform predictive and operational maintenance using procedures such as vibration analysis, and follow through with repair or replacing defective parts when necessary
  • Service and repair mechanical systems and machinery, including hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices to position machinery and parts during the assembly, installation, set-up and repair of equipment and machinery.
  • Align and test equipment and make any necessary adjustments
  • Preventative maintenance and repair of conveyors, various belt and chain transfers and drive systems, sawing, debarking, sorting, stacking and compressors and working with OSB Manufacturing Equipment
  • Learn how to use a variety of hand and power tools to carry out repairs and maintenance such as grinders, drill presses, air tools, etc.
  • Adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts
  • Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances
  • Assist in the cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of machinery and equipment
  • Work safely using established SOPs, following all lockouts and protocols, and completing PTHAs.
  • Use Aerial Work Platforms while wearing fall protection equipment
  • Learn and apply safe work practices in accordance with industry standards and regulations
  • Completing all company required documentation in a timely manner, as directed by your supervisor/foreman/journeyperson
  • Adhering to and promoting a safe work environment for yourself and your co-workers while maintaining an organized and safe work area
  • Must be willing to travel and complete the West Fraser Qualified Millwright training program.
  • Know when to ask a question if you are not fully aware or confident

What You Will Need:

  • Must have a High School Diploma

Would be considered an asset:

  • Ability to visualize a layout by looking at plans and blueprints
  • Experience in the forestry, manufacturing or industrial industry with mechanical responsibilities

  • Accurately update and maintain documentation
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team

  • The salary range for this position may vary depending on experience, education, and location.
