BGC Okanagan is hiring an Awake Residential Night Worker at our Emergency Youth Shelter at the Downtown Youth Centre. BGC Okanagan provides safe and supportive spaces where children, youth and families can experience new opportunities, over come barriers, build positive relationships and build confidence and skills for life.

The Awake Residential Night Worker monitors and attends to the well-being and safety of residents during the night and maintains a comfortable, safe, and clean environment for shelter residents.

This is a temporary position available from January 6, 2025 March 29, 2025.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors residents through the night and attends to any medical and behavioral needs that arise during the night.
  • Follow through on directions regarding specific residents left by the day staff.
  • Notifies staff of any major problems or emergencies. Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supports residents with their morning and evening routines at the beginning and end of the shift.
  • Ensures that residents follow house rules. Monitors curfew regulations and reports to appropriate authorities.
  • Monitors medications to residents in accordance with established policy.
  • Ensures that logbooks and other documentation such as charts and incident reports are complete.
  • Performs light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, cleaning and laundry. Performs minor building maintenance such as changing light bulbs. Reports maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  • Secures the building by arming alarms and locking doors and windows.
  • Prepares and assists residents in breakfast preparation.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 and six (6) months recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Current First Aid Certificate and Food Safe or willingness to obtain
  • Successful completion of Agency Screening Process including a criminal record check

This position is open to all applicants.

This position requires membership in the BCGEU.

Rate of Pay: $23.73 per hour

Hours: Position 1: 32 hours per week; 10:00pm-8:00am.

Position 2: 24hours per week, Saturday, 12 am -8 am Sunday 12 am -8 am, Monday 12 am -8am
