The Lac La Ronge Indian Bands Woodland Wellness Centre is inviting applications for the following positions based out of the Wellness Centre in La Ronge, SK:

Research & Community Engagement Specialist

1 Permanent Full-Time

The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties:

  • Lead research initiatives to evaluate and improve wellness programs using Indigenous and evidence-based approaches;
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grant proposals, to support WWC programs;
  • Build partnerships with academic institutions for research, grants, and access to resources that enhance program development;
  • Foster relationships with community members, elders, and other stakeholders through events, outreach and workshops;
  • Deliver sessions on environmental, nature-based healing, and traditional horticulture for staff and participants;
  • Oversee WWCs greenhouse operations, including growing traditional medicines, and educating participants on sustainable gardening practices;
  • Collaborate with Woodland Cree Elders, knowledge keepers to create culturally sensitive resources and advocate for wellness policies benefitting the community;
  • Develop and manage WWCs digital presence and maintain content aligned with the WWCs mission and values;
  • Coordinate with other agencies and organizations to secure funding and plan culturally based wellness initiatives;
  • Collect and analyze statistical data for program planning and ensure alignment with WWCs strategic objectives;
  • All other work-related duties as assigned by Immediate Supervisor.

The suitable candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in social sciences, public health, Indigenous studies or related field plus specialized knowledge of Horticulture;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in research, community engagement or program development preferably in an indigenous context;
  • Knowledge, willingness and understanding of First Nations customs and traditions is an asset;
  • Lifestyle choices including sobriety and abstinence from drugs and gaming consistent to the role will be a strong asset;
  • Strong research, data analysis and computer skills;
  • Effective verbal and writing communication skills;
  • A positive and professional approach towards participants, fellow staff and public;
  • Problem solving/critical thinking skills and Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Must have a Valid Class 5 Drivers License and own a reliable vehicle;
  • Must provide a satisfactory and recent; Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, SGI Drivers Abstract
