We are looking for a motivated Settlement Outreach Worker to join our Newcomers & Community Building team! Not sure if you're 100% qualified? We encourage you to apply anyway!

POSITION FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of Manager/Coordinator, Settlement Outreach Worker is responsible for providing direct client service and program delivery support for MOSAIC Newcomers and Community Building Program in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Tri-cities and Surrey. Through an integrated service approach, the Settlement Outreach Worker performs one-on-one detailed needs assessment and referrals, information and orientation, group orientation and information, community connections, client outreach, service bridging, resource development, and delivery assistance to eligible clients. As directed by the Supervisor or referred by other Settlement workers, the Settlement Outreach worker will identify clients needs and accompany clients to access community resources.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide one-on-one detailed needs assessment and referrals, information and
    orientation, group orientation and information, guided pathway support, community
    connections, client outreach, service bridging, resource development, and delivery
    assistance to eligible clients
  • Assists in identifying clients needs and supports clients to independently access
    community resources
    • Provides one-on-one basic employment-related information, support, and
      referrals
    • Application support for applying for a work permit, social insurance number
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, protocols, and procedures essential for the operation of the
    special focus of the program or project
  • Stay informed of current resources, trends, needs, changes, and service gaps in
    the general community, and in specific ethno-cultural minority communities
  • Accurately enter client information and services/activity information into OCMS in a
    timely manner
  • May develop individual Work Plans showing action plan/timelines to meet unique
    client caseload, service objectives, output, and outcomes
  • May document client activities in database(s), or document and collect data to
    produce contractual reports or statistics for funders
  • Assist manager in the development of partnerships with other service providers
  • Publicize MOSAIC programs/services to ethno-cultural minority communities and
    service providers

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have experience (2 or more years) in working with immigrants and refugee families.
  • Have experience (2 or more years) in social service, individual settlement, one-on-one or group counselling, presentation skills, group facilitation, and community outreach.
  • Experienced in establishing professional and confidential boundaries with clients.
  • Have a bachelors degree in social services, Humanities, Social Work or Counselling, and or equivalent life experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and working knowledge of another language (Tigrinya or Amharic).
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Knowledge and experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment and software applications (O365, virtual platforms, word processing, MS forms and Excel spreadsheets).
  • A current and satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record check will be required
  • The ability to drive and/or access to a reliable vehicle will be considered an asset

COMPENSATION: $28.58 - $29.25 per hour

HOURS:

35 hours per week. The successful candidate must be able to commute to the Highgate office (Kingsway, Burnaby).

BENEFITS:

A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length and which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
