The Senior Production & Operations Manager for Cooke Aquaculture USA Inc. (Maine) holds a key role in overseeing the farming of Atlantic Salmon, managing approximately 150 employees, and supervising multiple marine sites. This position entails leading a variety of responsibilities across different operational areas.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for Maine seawater salmon farming operations.
  • Manage the annual operating and CAPEX budgets, including forecasting and communicating business needs to support and service companies.
  • Understand and interpret complex fish farming dynamics, including government regulations, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and NGO interactions.
  • Support the harvest plan by collaborating with the harvest manager to ensure efficient execution.
  • Lead high-level environmental and regulatory affairs to ensure compliance and sustainability.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing five-year operational plans, aligning long-term goals with business objectives.
  • Coordinate smolt transfers to ensure smooth transitions between farming phases.
  • Support the corporate fish health strategy and collaborate with internal and external fish health professionals.
  • Identify and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Lead and provide direction to the maintenance team, ensuring smooth and safe operations.
  • Oversee key biological performance indicators, ensuring optimal farm productivity and health.
  • Represent the company in industry leadership roles, including serving on industry association boards when required.
  • Ensure compliance with industry certification standards and contribute to maintaining certifications.
  • Demonstrate strong business planning, leadership, and interpersonal skills to foster team collaboration and stakeholder relationships.

The Senior Production & Operations Manager will have access to internal corporate support across various departments, including HR, Feed Management, Nutrition, Health and Safety, Fish Health, R&D, SW Maintenance, Cage Construction and Repair, Logistics, Engineering, Net Washing and Supply, Communications and Public Relations, Process Improvement, Legal, Accounting, and Business Management. The incumbent is responsible for effectively leveraging the expertise and resources within these departments to meet the operational needs of the Maine farming operations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent academic qualification, or higher, with an Aquaculture Certificate from an accredited program.
  • 10 years of related managerial experience in aquaculture or a similar field.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate teams effectively.
  • Excellent project management skills, with a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Technical proficiency in software applications used by the company, including operational and management tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, with experience in team building, conflict resolution, and goal setting.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on finding practical and efficient solutions.
  • A combination of relevant education and experience will also be considered.
  • Successful candidates must reside in the area they are managing.
