Job Status: Contract until December 2025

Purpose of the Position:

The primary goal of this program is to provide culturally sensitive clinical services to individuals experiencing early episode psychosis and their families within the Districts of Muskoka and Parry Sound. The successful candidate will be responsible for the rapid identification, assessment, and intervention of early episode clients, following best practice recommendations. They will offer psycho-education groups for clients and families, foster shared care approaches, and develop creative family support initiatives. The role involves working collaboratively with district clinicians and families to build and maintain a family support network throughout the region and providing specialized training and consultation on an ongoing basis. This role also involves building strong relationships with Indigenous youth in community and primarily the Parry Sound High School, liaising with faculty and other mental health and addiction resources to treat and support Indigenous youth at risk.

The incumbent will deliver high-quality assessments and individual/group therapy interventions following best practices.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations is a strong asset.
  • Cultural competence in incorporating Indigenous practices within a therapeutic relationship is highly valued.
  • Knowledge of the historical and current contexts affecting the health of Indigenous peoples in Ontario, including colonization, residential schools, treaties, and land claims.
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of Indigenous populations within the traditional territories of Muskoka and Parry Sound is essential.
  • Knowledge of traditional and non-traditional healing and wellness practices, and the ability to collaborate with elders, healers, and other Indigenous knowledge holders.
  • Registration with a college that grants the right to practice the protected act of psychotherapy.
  • A university degree or higher in a human service/health science field with post-graduate specialization in the theoretical foundations of providing psychotherapy will be seen as an asset.
  • Familiarity with Early Psychosis Intervention standards from the Early Psychosis Intervention Ontario Network (EPION) is an asset.
  • Experience in providing psychotherapy to individuals, groups, and families affected by mental illness and substance use disorder.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of serious mental illnesses, typically gained through at least one (1) year of working with individuals with serious mental health conditions.
  • Clinical knowledge and experience in mental health issues, treatment modalities, and case management principles.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, particularly in rural settings.
  • Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.
  • Bilingual in French is an asset.
  • A valid drivers license and access to a safe, reliable means of transportation.
  • Willingness to work days, evenings, and weekends based on agency needs.

Salary Scale: $35.90 to $44.26 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Benefits: Optional enrollment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP), with contributions starting on the date of hire.
