We're crewing up on Julin, a new animated feature film from five time Oscar nominated studio Cartoon Saloon (WolfWalkers, The Breadwinner, Song of the Sea, The Secret of Kells and Late Afternoon). The 2D film marks the feature directorial debut of Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Louise Bagnall (Late Afternoon), with the title based on the graphic novel "Julin is a Mermaid" by Jessica Love.


Julin is the second collaboration between Guru Studio, Cartoon Saloon and Aircraft Pictures, following the 2018 Oscar-nominated film, The Breadwinner.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing Scene files for Digital Ink and Paints artists.
  • Exporting PNG files of animation line art from TVPaint files and Moho files for DIP artists to colour in ToonBoom Harmony.
  • Set up and organize line layers, ensuring they are ready for line and colour painting.
  • Working with TVPaint files converted to ToonBoom Harmony to color.
  • Color animated line work for 2D animation sequences, ensuring line quality and style match the productions specifications.
  • Set up and organize line layers, ensuring they are ready for animation and painting stages.
  • Paint fill line art to adherence to approved model sheets for coloring and fill painting animation sequences in ToonBoom Harmony
  • Collaborate with the Digital Ink and Paints artists to ensure lines are accurately aligned with characters, environments, and other elements.
  • Adjust layering work based on feedback from supervisors, making modifications as needed to maintain quality standards.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a clear workflow for line work, including file organization, naming conventions, and version control.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical or artistic issues related to line quality and consistency.
  • Ensure all line assets are properly archived and documented for future reference and re-use.
  • Meet deadlines and coordinate with the production team to ensure the line set-up aligns with the production schedule.

Qualifications:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in a similar role within a 2D animation production environment.
  • Experienced in ToonBoom Harmony: knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, TVPaint and Moho is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of line work quality control, file setup for animation, and digital inking processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to take direction and collaborate effectively with other departments.
  • Efficient time management skills, able to prioritize tasks and meet production deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Resourceful and proactive in troubleshooting line quality issues and adapting to feedback.
  • Familiarity with 2D animation pipelines is a plus.
