Job Title – Chemist I (18-month Contract)

Department – Tracer Diagnostics

Reports to – Laboratory Supervisor

Job Summary

A Chemist is primarily responsible to perform advanced technical and analytical work involving the investigation of the chemical nature of substances and provides assistance in the implementation and maintenance of company processes. Requires use of independent judgement; performed under general directions and reviewed through observation, conferences and results achieved.

Key areas of responsibility

• Analyzes chemical nature and make-up of various samples from different sources to provide information on compounds or quantities of compounds present using analytical techniques and instrumentation

• Processes and records data from analytical instruments

• Performs laboratory analyses in order to produce reliable and precise reports to support scientific investigations within the oil and gas industry

• Prepares reports on scientific results

• Provides consultation and expert advice to management

• Maintains analytical instruments according to specifications

• Constructs, maintains, & operates lab equipment (e.g., centrifuges, pipetting machine, pH meters)

• Prepares chemical reagents for analyses

• Uses multiple software programs to assist in performing analyses and preparing scientific reports

• Implements and maintains strict safety processes and safety checks

• Examines and evaluates new methods and techniques

• Assists in the development and performance of experiments to test hypotheses and improve tracer technology

• Supervise laboratory technicians as required to maintain data analysis and reporting

• Support and uphold HS&E policies and procedures of NCS and the customer

• Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Bachelor's Degree in physical science (Chemistry Degree Preferred)

• 1 - 3 years of Analytical Laboratory working experience; preferred

• Knowledge of HPLC, GC, MS and other modern analytical technologies

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites

• Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment, willing to think on their own, with excellent attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks

• Ability to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum, petrochemicals and laboratory chemicals without allergic reaction or nausea

• Ability to stand, bend and sit for extended time periods

• Ability to work in climate and non-climate-controlled area (95% climate, 5% non-climate)

• Ability to move or lift 50lbs

Additional Information

• Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm

• Criminal background check required for all positions

• Safety sensitive positions will require additional pre-employment testing
