Job Purpose:
The Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive and coordinated care to patients as a member of a collaborative primary care team. The NP partners with and complements other members of the health care team for the achievement of individual and family centered care. The goal is to provide continuity and coordination of medical care and enhanced access to programs, services, and community resources for Cold Lake First Nations Members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Nurse Practitioner will conduct comprehensive health assessments, diagnose health conditions, and provide treatment and management for acute and chronic illness within a holistic model of care. NPs order and interpret screening and diagnostic tests, perform procedures, prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions, and refer to high level specialty care when needed.
- As an independent healthcare professional, the Nurse practitioner will serve as primary care provider to CLFN members.
- May require work at multiple sites and travel between the various community sites.
- Any other duties as required/requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Masters Degree of Nursing Advanced Nursing Practice stream or equivalent nurse practitioner program in Family All Ages.
- Nurse Practitioner in good standing with CRNA.
- Recent experience working in a Nurse Practitioner role with patients of all ages.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills within scope of practice including critical judgement and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of communicable disease control (this includes vaccinations for infant, school, and adult, TB control, notifiable disease reporting and monitoring), Prenatal/Postnatal Care, Primary Care, Home Care, Mental Health and Addictions Services.
- A well-rounded knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Programs, with ability to organize and maintain client health records within an EMR including continuous learning around EMR functionalities considered an asset.
- The ability to maintain client confidentiality under oath
- Well developed oral and written communication skills
- Good physical & mental health, emotional maturity
- The ability to work in a high stress situation
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with little supervision
- Knowledge of the Cold Lake First Nations culture, government, languages, and community dynamics is considered an asset. Competencies in other languages an asset, preferably Dene Suline.
- Current certification in BCLS, ACLS and PALS considered an asset
- Valid Drivers License & Drivers Abstract
- Criminal Record Check
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
- Monday to Thursday 8:30am 4:30pm, Friday 8:30am 2:00pm. Overtime and/or flexibility to schedule may be required.
- Office and Field Environment. Location will be at the Cold Lake First Nations Health Center and associate Clinics.
- Local and long-distance travel may be required.
