The March Break Camp Counsellor ‘Counsellor' is responsible to assist in the planning, delivery and supervision of March Break Camp programs and participants; ensuring compliance with HIGH FIVE® standards, the Health and Safety Regulations; and Municipal Policies and Procedures.Benefits and Perks

Compensation

$17.45-$18.94 per hour.

Qualifications
  • High school students in grade 10 and higher will be considered.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR C with AED or willing to obtain.
  • Experience working with children and youth is an asset.
  • HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development or willing to obtain.
  • Where training qualifications are not met, training may be available, at the applicants expense, if selected.
  • Valid and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Indoor and outdoor work environment.
  • Standing, sitting, running, jumping, dancing etc. associated with active participation in sports, activities and games required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide input on development of Camp programs; organize and implement Camp programs and assist in the supervision of all activities.
  • Act as a group leader within assigned Camp groups, accountable to the Recreation Program Coordinator for all activities; ensuring the safety and participation of children.
  • Interact with the Camp participants in a positive and professional manner in the delivery of the program; incorporate the principles of HIGH FIVE ® regarding healthy child development.
  • Comply with the Child Guidance and Child Abuse Policies as outlined at staff training.
  • Act as the liaison between the parent, child and Recreation Program Coordinator
  • Advise the Recreation Program Coordinator of any problems related to equipment, programs or public inquiries and shall report any unacceptable behaviour to the Recreation Program Coordinator.
  • Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public's perception of the Municipality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Program Coordinator or designate.
