The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples represents the interests of Métis, status and Non-status Indians, and Southern Inuit Indigenous People living off-reserve in Canada. CAP is one of five National Indigenous Representative Organizations recognized by the Government of Canada.

Our vision is that all Indigenous peoples in Canada will experience the highest quality of life, founded on highest quality of life, founded on the rebuilding of our Nations. All Indigenous citizens will rightfully be treated with respect, dignity, integrity, and equality.
CAP works collectively with its ten provincial and territorial affiliate organizations across Canada to promote and advance the common interests, collective and individual rights, and needs of its constituents. Our mandate is to improve the socio-economic conditions of off-reserve status and non-status Indians, Métis and Southern Inuit living in urban or rural areas. CAP holds meetings with members of the government to find practical ways to improve federal programs, policies and services for off-reserve Indigenous Peoples.

Summary
The Administrative Assistant, reporting to the Director of Governance Support, will undertake a variety of administrative tasks to support the Executive team of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples, including the National Chief and National Vice-Chief. Additional responsibilities relevant to the position may be assigned as necessary.
This role involves providing general information and administrative support to the department, requiring a high degree of adaptability to new technology and the ability to interact with individuals with sensitivity, tact, diplomacy, and professionalism at all times.

What You'll Do
- Provide administrative support to the Executive and departmental members.
- Review and prepare documents, reports and other correspondence materials for the management team.
- Courteously receive and screen all in-bound calls, emails, and visitors.
- Coordinate departmental office activities.
- Review, evaluate and distribute all incoming and outgoing mail.
- Maintain daily appointments of Executive members.
- Take and transcribe dictation notes and meeting minutes.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.
- Assist with report and presentation preparation.
- Maintain a professional image and demeanour with all employees, management, executives and visitors at all times.
- Maintain and monitor office supply inventory levels and place orders as required.
- Prepare travel arrangements with a keen attention to detail, where necessary.
- Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required.
You'll Need to Have
- Secondary School Diploma required.
- Business Administration degree or diploma an asset.
- 2-5 years' experience as an Administrative Assistant, or relevant role, considered an asset.
- Proficient use of various office-based software including Microsoft applications of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Our Working Conditions
- Hybrid working would normally be performed from the CAP National Office based in Ottawa.
- Occasional weekend and evening work.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Full-time fixed position. Continued staffing of this position is subject to annual priorities and confirmation of funding from the federal government.
- Salary commensurate with experience.
