JOB SUMMARY:

The Snow Removal Operator participates in a team setting to safely and effectively clear snow and manage risk associated with snow/ice. Operators are expected to be available 24hrs/day, 7 days/week at any time a snow or ice event occurs within Sagamok Anishnawbek public roads and parking lots.

In support of Sagamok Anishnawbek's goal of providing quality management, the Snowplow Operator shall continuously strive to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively with other departments to provide quality services to its membership. The snowplow Operator reports directly to the Roads Manager.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Respond promptly to calls for snow and ice events.
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections.
  • Clear snow from customer sites from designated areas.
  • Pile snow in designated and approved locations only.
  • Submit paperwork and documentation promptly at the end of each shift.
  • Document and report any obstacles at site(s).
  • Attend and participate in regular P&I team meetings.
  • Alert the Roads Manager when supplies have depleted to a quantity that requires reordering.
  • Alert the Roads Manager of other problems in a timely fashion so that appropriate action can be taken.
  • Participate in the education of community members of issues relating to roads.
  • Participate in health and safety training on a regular basis (WHMIS, confined space, CPR and first aid).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Prepare and show up for shifts free from the influence of any drugs, alcohol, or medicines that influence safe and productive equipment operation.
  • Work in accordance with all health and safety laws and regulations
  • Communicate with customers in a polite and courteous manner
  • Sign & comply with an annual oath of confidentiality

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid drivers' license and/or equipment operators' certificate(s)
  • Safe driving record – able to submit a driver's abstract (infractions history)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating snowplows and/or snowplow equipment
  • Carry and use a smart phone or data-enabled device for communication and reporting
  • Training possible for otherwise ideal candidate not meeting these qualification requirements
