The Special Events Security Officer is responsible for ensuring crowd control at events, enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations. Ensuring the personal safety of staff, visitors, and property. Maintains security and safety for assigned areas. Maintains working knowledge of the locations of various departments, buildings, access routes and admitting requirements.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provides crowd control and monitors for any potential crowd control issues and concerns.
- Screening patrons during ingress using walk-through metal detectors, bag searches, and hand wanding techniques
- Performing safety and emergency procedures and ensuring security duties are carried out in compliance with all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws and REAL policies and procedures.
- Responds to incidents, and manages CSSS response to emergency situations, criminal activity, and other major events. Makes immediate and appropriate decisions to prevent or minimize personal injury and/or damage to personal and public property.
- Mitigates risk to the campus to ensure life safety and operational continuity. Notifies the Command Centre for activation of the first responders in the event of an emergency.
- Maintaining detailed reporting on all events and proper incident reporting.
- Providing excellent customer service to guests, employees and the public by offering assistance where needed, finding balance and neutralizing high stress situations.
- Performs Patrolling of areas and security checks.
- Acts as an on-scene Incident Commander for all emergencies, demonstrations, large protests, and events on campus, working in a unified command capacity with local police, fire, and emergency health services agencies.

Requirements
WHAT IT TAKES

- Grade 12 education or GED is preferred.
- Must have valid Serve-It-Right (SIRs) certification.
- Must be at least Nineteen (19) years of age.
- Formal training and/or work experience in the field of security services or crowd control is preferred.
- Valid Driver's License must be maintained.
- Able to walk/stand for full duration of shift.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
- Demonstrated experience in public relations.
- Excellent decision-making skills
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
- The successful candidate must also possess and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CRC)
- Physical ability to handle confrontational/violent/abusive/intoxicated situations.
- This position is an in-scope position under the RWDSU Collective Agreement.
