Current Position Opportunities include:

Evenings (Monday-Friday 3pm-11pm)

Overnights (Sunday 7pm-7am, then Monday-Thursday 11pm-7am - Would need to work this exact schedule)

Weekend Overnight (Friday 11pm-7am & Saturday 7pm-7am - Would need to work this exact schedule)

Mixed (Flexible for Days and Evenings between 7am-11pm Monday-Friday)

Job Summary:

Anew Centre for Healing's Family Reunification/Preservation program is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Family Support Worker to join our team!

Anew operates several sober living homes for Indigenous parents/caregivers involved with Children Services. The parents/caregivers would move into a 24/7 staffed home with their children and your role would be to teach the parents how to properly care and provide for their children by ways of modeling, mentoring, guiding, and supporting.

The role includes supporting parents with finding them income support, counseling services, attending medical appointments, attending AA or NA meetings, enrolling in parenting classes, etc.

You would also support parents in establishing routines for their children, helping them with daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, etc., as well as aiding in the planning and attending of cultural and recreational activities.

This position requires you to have a valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and $2 million liability coverage as you would be responsible for transporting families to and from appointments, court appearances, family visits to home communities, cultural events, etc.

Additional Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Develop a trusting and therapeutic relationship with each member of the family and with the community;

- Documentation on every member of the family such as daily logs, contact notes, monthly progress reports, etc;

- Crisis intervention;

- Assess, evaluate, and implement Healing Plans for the whole family;

- Assistance with medication administration;

- Program set up such as counseling, parenting groups, school for children, etc.;

- Teaching of daily living skills such as budgeting, shopping, hygiene, cleaning and caring for a home, etc.;

- Maintain structure, consistency, and effective follow-up on house rules, routines, and appropriate therapeutic interventions as required;

- Providing each member of the family with a sense of safety, acceptance, and nurturance;

- Advocacy for individual's rights and access to resources;

- Participation in team meetings to discuss families' progress.

Requirements:

- All employees should have a Degree or Diploma in a relevant Human Service field such as Social Work or Child and Youth Care from an accredited University or College with at least 2 years of experience working with and supporting families;

- Preference is given to those that are Indigenous as the families we support are also Indigenous, however not necessarily a requirement;

- Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, clear driver's abstract, and $2 million liability coverage on your vehicle;

- Recent Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector (less than 6 months old);

- Recent Alberta Child Welfare/Intervention Record Check (less than 6 months old). Note: This is not the same as the Criminal Record Check. This document can be obtained from your local Children and Family Services office;

- Strong interpersonal skills that bridge the distance with individuals who may have a resistance to relationships, different morals/values, and alternative lifestyle choices;

- Knowledge of family dynamics, addiction, domestic violence, and mental health disorders;

- Understanding of the impacts of intergenerational trauma and the Indigenous culture/history;

- Understanding of the Client-Centred model, Medicine Wheel, and Milieu-Based Therapy philosophies of treatment/healing/interventions;

- Must be flexible to attend mandatory training.
