EHS Manager (Environmental, Health and Safety)

Job Summary:

As an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager, you will report to the Director of Safety & Compliance and are responsible for administering the respective entity's environmental, health and safety programs and driving improved results. Successful candidates will be responsible for both strategic and tactical elements of the company environmental, health, and safety program as outlined below.

Job Duties:

Continual Improvement:

  • Refine & maintain regulatory compliance policy and program implementation.
  • Collaborate with business unit (BU) management to develop programs to reduce incidents and drive culture of safe behavior.
  • Assist with development of risk mitigation and business continuity plans.

Safety:

  • Develops accident-prevention and loss-control systems and program for incorporation into operational policies of the organization.
  • Conduct basic investigations. Coordinate with Corporate Safety with higher level issues.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational injuries and accidents and prepares reports for information of personnel concerned.
  • Maintains liaison with outside organizations, such as fire departments, regulatory agencies, customer EHS to assure information exchange and mutual assistance.
  • Responsible for setting and maintaining records, tracking, and reporting of BU EHS KPIs.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing EHS audits/inspections as well as the requirements for conducting, tracking, and reporting.
  • Responsible for developing and administering online and in-person EHS training. This will include training to both line level employees as well as BU leaders.
  • Chairperson of the BU (JHSC) safety committee(s) that will meet monthly to review incidents, near misses and safety results in order to determine root cause and develop/implement corrective actions.
  • Routinely meets with Director of Safety & Compliance to discuss/review objectives, strategies and plan associated with safety improvements, safety issues and safety results.

Environmental:

  • Identify chemical inventory on-site and compare level to regulated action levels.
  • Ensure appropriate disposition of all waste material.
  • Establish and maintain required Environmental recordkeeping and reporting processes.
  • Establish and manage waste minimization and emergency response planning.
  • Respond to upset conditions and advise team members on corrective actions.
  • Administer chemical inventory and waste management processes.
  • Administer air and water quality management processes.
  • Develop and implement Environmental management systems for any applicable plant activities.
  • Develop and implement required Environmental training programs.
  • Responsible for all facility Environmental permitting/compliance activities.
  • Develop environmental programs and train appropriate personnel accordingly.
  • Evaluate current practices and implement policies/programs.
  • Collaborate with Operations to maintain current hazardous waste status.
  • Maintain compliance in changing regulatory and growing business environment.
  • Develop chemical disposal plan for location(s).

Automobile Program (if applicable):

  • Identify opportunities and programs to reduce auto related incidents.
  • Evaluate prior years' incidents and current trends. Provide action plans for improvement and track to completion.
  • Communicate monthly KPI's.
  • Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of this position at any time.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in a related field required
  • Ability to successfully work independently or within a team
  • Must be able to influence without direct authority
  • Committed to customer satisfaction and ability to adapt/respond to different personalities
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
  • Intermediate computer skills, experience with Microsoft programs and email communication
  • Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, including ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Must be willing to travel to meet with BU management and corporate leadership (~25%)
  • Environmental, Health, and Safety Degree, preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years compliance experience, preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years related role in a manufacturing/construction/chemical environment, preferred

Salary Range: 74,000 – 110,000 CAD
