The Role

We are currently looking for Structural Fitters for our shop located just NE of Fort Saskatchewan, AB. The day shift crew work 6:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Thursday. Future project requirements may require additional overtime and work on weekends.

A metal fabricator (fitter) lays out, prepares and assembles structural steel and metal vessels, containers and miscellaneous components. Metal fabricators (fitters) fabricate structural components for frames, platforms, buildings, and other load-carrying structures, and plates for tanks, boilers, pressure vessels and similar products. On a typical project, they will:

Compensation/Benefits

  • Competitive hourly wage, negotiable, based on experience. Overtime at time and a half.
  • 6% vacation pay and 4% stat holiday pay on all regular hours
  • Benefits after 90 days of employment (50% employer paid) - vision, health, dental, paramedicals, travel

  • Will consider DSP's/subcontractors as well

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Read & interpret blueprints or welding process specifications for structural steel
  • Plan the sequence of tasks and decide how to cut the steel most efficiently
  • Determine the materials required and obtain them from stock
  • Develop and/or mark patterns if required
  • Use metal-working machines and cutting torches to cut steel, drill or punch holes, and roll, bend or press steel into the desired shapes,
  • Assemble and fit metal sections and plates together to form complete units or sub-units
  • Fasten components together (by mechanical means or tack weld) in preparation for a welder to complete the process.

  • Experience using overhead cranes and skid steers

  • Excellent communication skills, can-do attitude, collaborative skills, ability to follow directions and have attention to detail
  • Perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines

Experience/Education/Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Metal Fabricator (Fitter) certificate. Pipe Fitters and other trades will be considered with suitable equivalent experience.
  • Must have previous experience in a similar setting and industry
  • CSTS 2020 Fundamentals (contains WHMIS2015)
  • Valid CWB, FCAW, SMAW ALL POSITIONS is considered an asset
  • May be required to complete a pre-access drug and alcohol test when working on certain sites
  • May need to have certain safety tickets and complete site specific orientations for certain sites.
  • Class 5 driver's license with reliable transportation to and from work
