Job Title: Senior Engineer – Civil Earthworks (1 Year Contract)
The Senior Engineer - Civil Earthworks will play a critical role in the development of Eskay Creek, overseeing all civil earthworks engineering aspects from design to execution. This position involves managing external consultants, supporting permitting processes, and ensuring effective coordination between the site execution team, consultants, and the permitting team.
Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):
· Coordinate the work of external civil earthworks engineering consultants on all civil earthworks designs for site roads, infrastructure pads, TMSF dam structures, access road improvements, topsoil and overburden storage facilities, and geotechnical aspects of ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and budget constraints.
· Coordinate with Water Resources Engineer, General Manager and construction team to ensure project needs are reflected in all Civil Engineering related designs.
· Facilitate internal review of engineering consultant recommendations, challenging where necessary and making sure they are within budget expectations.
· Coordinate with Water Resources Engineer to ensure water management designs align with civil earthworks project requirements, timelines and budget constraints.
· Permitting and Regulatory Compliance: Collaborate with the permitting team to inform and support the development of permit applications and ensure all civil engineering work complies with regulatory requirements.
· Project Planning and Design Review: Lead the review of civil designs and plans, providing technical and constructability input and ensuring that designs meet project specifications and site conditions.
· Interface Management: Act as the primary interface between the site execution team, consultants, and the permitting team for all civil earthworks related scopes, ensuring clear communication and effective coordination.
· Site Support and Problem-Solving: Provide periodic on-site support during construction activities, addressing any civil engineering challenges that arise and ensuring that engineering solutions are implemented effectively.
· Budget and Cost Management: Monitor and manage the civil engineering budget, ensuring that all work is
completed within financial constraints and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
· Scheduling: Provide feedback to IMS, drive work prioritization with consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure project schedule is maintained.
· Reporting and Documentation: Prepare regular reports on civil engineering activities, progress, and any issues or risks, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up to date and managed via Skeena's document management system (Aconex) and that civil engineering activities and deliverables are reflected in the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
· Quality Management: Provide guidance to the site execution and Quality Teams on effective construction management, survey control and QA/QC.
· Technical Advisory: Provide technical advice and guidance on civil engineering matters, including site preparation, earthworks, road construction, and other related areas.
· Material Takeoff: Complete quantity takeoffs for all construction materials involved in civil projects and ensure material forecasts are provided to site execution team.
· All other duties as required.
The Ideal Candidate:
Education / Qualifications:
• A bachelor's degree in Civil, Mining or Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5-7 years of progressive experience in engineering roles, experience in a leadership or management position an asset
•Proven field experience on Heavy Civil construction, ideally 3+ years in the field.
• Mining experience is preferred, ideally in a New Build Construction environment.
• Designated Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in British Columbia or equivalent is required.
• Strong computer skills using MS office suite is required.
• Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar is an asset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Has demonstrated strong leadership skills
• Must possess very strong attention to detail.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently as needed.
Work Location & Conditions
This is an office-based job, in Skeena's Corporate office located in Vancouver, British Columbia on a Monday to Friday schedule, with periodic visits to Skeena's Eskay Creek site and other business travel required as needed. Additionally, the job is in a fast-paced, and at times demanding working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities. Some flexibility in work location may be considered. This a fixed-term opportunity, with the contract lasting 12 months in duration.
