Title: Human Resources Manager

Reports To: President & CEO

Job Summary & Impact:

As the HR Manager, you will be in charge of the human resources department duties and manage the team. The position has a direct impact on the companys culture, finances, morale and the health and safety of the entire team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Retention

  • Representing the company at job fairs by engaging the public and promoting the company brand and careers in a positive outgoing manner
  • Full-cycle recruitment, from job posting to interviewing, reference checking and hiring
  • Finding proactive ways to improve the companys recruitment and retention program
  • Review and conduct surveys and retention initiatives to improve turnover companywide
  • Understand the immigration laws and how our trade can aid in retaining employees on work permits

Performance Management

  • Operate the companys hotline to manage performance and absenteeism
  • Oversee the in-house education program that contributes to the growth and development of our team
  • Compile and present performance reviews and check ins throughout the year (reviews are conducted on our job sites)
  • Review and track daily personnel reports, skills development and training to ensure a smooth onboarding process and performance management of new employees within their probationary period
  • Ensure employees are performing up to standard and are well managed

Culture & Events

  • Attend and manage company events which is a vital part of the Para Space culture
  • Arrange bi-monthly companywide giveaways for the team
  • Oversee the tenure recognition, birthday program, life milestones, and condolences program on a weekly basis
  • Coordinate employee contests, content for our Friday newsletter Para Verse, surveys, and more that have a direct impact on culture

Labour Relations

  • Provides day-to-day advice and guidance to ensure consistency in the interpretation and application of the collective agreement
  • Participates in the collective bargaining process, by providing input to bargaining strategies, conducting research on workplace issues, grievance-related trends, historical practices, case history, precedents, relevant legislation and other labour relations topics. Also carries out analysis of proposals and related cost/benefit; drafts collective agreement language; and prepares other bargaining materials.
  • Represents management in conflict resolution processes, including labour and classification grievances, appeals, and expedited arbitrations.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with union leaders and representatives and participates in dialogue to resolve day-to-day labour relations issues.
  • Grievance management including attending meetings, tracking progress and drafting responses.

General:

  • You may be involved with other miscellaneous tasks/projects as required
  • Policy creation and revision
  • Participation in the development of content for our website and social media
  • Improving our award-winning culture
  • Manage the HRIS system
  • Work cooperatively to foster a harmonious working relationship with all co-workers
  • You would be responsible for completing reports and other paperwork as associated with these projects and as assigned.
  • You would be required to complete weekly task lists and schedules and would have weekly meetings with your manager

Qualifications:

  • BCOM/BBA, preferably specializing in Human Resource Management with a focus on Labour relations or another relevant post-secondary degree
  • 5+ years of experience in Human Resources
  • Progressive experience in Labour Relations with responsibility for collective agreement interpretation, grievance management and progressive discipline matters
  • Experience in collective bargaining process through more than one (1) negotiation cycle as second chair
  • Strong understanding of British Columbia Labour and Employment Laws
  • Extensive employment immigration knowledge
  • Advanced skills working with Google Drive, Microsoft Office, HRIS (BambooHR)

Compensation, Work Environment & Perks:

  • Business hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. You will be expected to respond to staff before and after hours. Evenings and weekends on occasion to attend conferences, company and recruitment events.
  • You also would be expected to attend our weekly Monday Morning Meeting which starts at 7:00am (managers are expected to be there at 6:30).
  • Office space at the head office but expected to work in the field to see staff in all weather conditions
  • $85,000 - $115,000 per year

Please note, this position will require you to work in the field on crew for 1 week to see what the landscaping role entails.

We would have quarterly meetings to discuss performance and advancement opportunities. We would have annual performance reviews to discuss wages. Increases would be dependent on your performance, responsibilities, and workload.
