We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented System Test Engineer to validate and optimize commercial smart lighting systems.
This role requires expertise in system testing, building efficiency standards such as ASHRAE, Title 24, IECC and similar energy codes, as well as a deep understanding of smart lighting technologies.
The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the functionality, compliance, and performance of smart lighting solutions across commercial projects.

This role requires expertise in system testing, building efficiency standards such as ASHRAE, Title 24, IECC and similar energy codes, as well as a deep understanding of smart lighting technologies.
The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the functionality, compliance, and performance of smart lighting solutions across commercial projects.
Key Responsibilities
System Testing and Validation
- Design and execute comprehensive test plans, procedures, and scripts for commercial smart lighting systems, including hardware, software, and network integrations.
- Conduct functional, performance, and compliance testing to ensure system reliability and adherence to specifications.
- Test and verify the integration of lighting controls with building management systems (BMS) and IoT devices.
- Simulate real-world scenarios to identify potential issues and ensure seamless operation under varying conditions.
- Ensure all lighting systems meet or exceed energy efficiency standards, including ASHRAE 90.1, Title 24, and other regional or project-specific codes.
- Analyze system performance data and generate compliance reports for regulatory authorities and project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with design and engineering teams to address compliance-related issues during development and testing.
- Work closely with engineering, product development, and installation teams to identify and resolve system issues.
- Provide feedback to development teams regarding design improvements and potential system enhancements.
- Act as a technical resource for project managers, installation teams, and clients regarding system testing and compliance.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of test results, including issues identified and steps taken to resolve them.
- Develop and refine testing methodologies and workflows to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing efforts by creating training materials and technical guides for internal teams.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in system testing, quality assurance, or a related role, preferably in the lighting or building systems industry.
- Strong knowledge of smart lighting technologies, control systems (e.g., DALI, Zigbee, Z-Wave), and IoT integrations.
- Familiarity with energy efficiency standards, including ASHRAE 90.1, Title 24, LEED, and related building codes.
- Proficiency in testing tools and methodologies, including software debugging, hardware testing, and network analysis.
- Hands-on experience with lighting control software, BMS integration, and compliance verification tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Certifications in energy efficiency, lighting systems, or system testing.
- Experience with lighting design software (e.g., AuotCAD).
- Knowledge of additional regional or international building efficiency standards.
