Job Description
The successful candidate will be located in AltaLink's Law department in Calgary, AB and will assist in-house lawyers in the provision of legal support to the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Legal research and drafting letters, memos, pleadings, and contracts in relation to the statutes, regulations, rules, and regulatory requirements.
- Project work of a legal nature, and participating in meetings with in-house lawyers and internal clients.
- Provide legal support and assistance in relation to applications, hearings, regulatory appeals, enforcement matters, contract reviews, and in proceedings before the hearing commissioners or Courts. This work can include reviewing and summarizing documents, preparing case summaries, and assisting with the preparation of litigation materials including written submissions and books of authorities.
- Undertake project work as directed, such as developing precedent banks, and updating branch templates and resource materials.
- Data entry and retrieval of operational information.
- Convert rough draft presentations into professional looking presentations using PowerPoint, Excel or Word.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- 1st or 2nd year student of a common law degree program at an accredited school in Canada;
- Completed course work in any of the following areas is an asset: administrative law, contract law, energy law, aboriginal law, constitutional law, civil litigation/process.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to produce accurate and detailed records.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Self-motivated, willing to take initiative and willingness to learn.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes;
- A self-starter who is able to work both independently and collaboratively as a team player.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Proven track record of good attendance and punctuality.
