OVERVIEW

*Please note that we are a high voltage electrical laboratory that tests, certifies, inspects, and repairs insulating rubber goods, utility tools and equipment (live line tools, battery operated and crimping tools, grounding equipment, etc.).

We currently have a new opportunity for an energetic, hands-on shop-floor supervisor with a mechanical aptitude to join our team at our NAIL-accredited high voltage testing laboratory located in Edmonton, Alberta. The successful candidate excels in a fast-paced, technical environment, meeting the stringent demands of our customers within this recession-proof industry. Knowledge of power utility/electrical equipment and/or industry-related standards is a definite asset. The ability to quickly learn standards and working procedures is a must.

Receiving direction from, and collaborating with, the Branch Manager, you will schedule, direct, train, and work alongside a crew of technicians involved in several specialties both in the lab and the field, maintaining production efficiency and coordinating work efforts to ensure customer satisfaction and legislative compliance.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prioritize, schedule, assign and coordinate the work of technicians and assigned staff to accomplish a wide variety of duties related to inspection, testing, and repair of all protective equipment in the Shop and at customer locations.
  • Oversee and lead work performed by laboratory technicians and ensure they perform their duties in compliance with appropriate safety practices, procedures, and all applicable standards including ASTM, IEEE, CSA, CUL, and/or as specifically directed by our customers
  • Provide training, work direction and guidance for performing the work
  • Assist subordinates with problem-solving, as required.
  • Support and implement corporate training programs according to current standards and company procedures, including new employee training, performance monitoring, and performance reviews
  • Evaluate product for testing, investigate standards and testing methods, and create and maintain all testing procedures for all products serviced
  • Determine the need and make recommendations for the purchase of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Oversee and conduct testing, inspection, and repair of insulating protective equipment
  • Oversee and conduct testing, inspection, and repair of voltage-detecting devices and metering
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment to perform tasks in a safe, clean, and efficient manner
  • Communicate with the customer on all important issues and update the client about the progress of work related to their equipment in the lab or on-site, as required
  • Exercise initiative or, as directed, perform additional duties to meet the needs of the company

EDUCATION, TRAININGS AND SKILLS

TECHNICAL / PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Mechanical aptitude; knowledge of the use of various hand tools
  • Leads and supports team members on technical and job-related matters
  • Strong computer skills - MS Office
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards, including ASTM IEEE, CSA, and CUL
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
