Position Overview
The Manager, Accounting, will report directly to the Director, Finance, and will be responsible for, but not limited to, fund accounting, financial reporting, property accounting, quarterly reporting, financial forecasting, and Net Asset Value (NAV) pricing. The role provides multi-departmental support to the Investments, Fund Operations, and Marketing team in addition to Accounting responsibilities. Imperative to the role is the ability to demonstrate value as a team member that can execute assigned tasks with a high degree of proficiency. This position requires the ability to manage multiple deliverables and ensure deadlines are achieved and aligned with the Pier 4 values (Professionalism, Integrity, Excellence, and Respect).
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accounting ledgers, supporting schedules, and variance analyses for the Trust and Limited Partnership of the REIT
- Process invoices for the Trust and Limited Partnership of the REIT
- Assist with the quarterly financial reporting (consolidated financial statements, unitholder report/MD&A, metrics for marketing material, etc.)
- Coordinate payment of monthly distributions and commissions
- Assist with requests related to the annual financial statement audit
- Assist with requests related to the annual tax filings (Trust, Limited Partnership, Investor T3 slips, etc.)
- Develop intuitive and automated models for financial analysis
- Maintain and innovate accounting processes for efficiency purposes
- Oversee team of property accountants through review of supporting schedules, advising on transactions/journal entries, and performance review processes
- Communicate rent collection efforts with property management teams
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
- CPA designation mandatory.
- 3 - 5 years experience in progressive accounting or finance roles.
- Managerial experience considered an asset.
- High degree of proficiency using Microsoft Office is required.
- Fundamental understanding of IFRS (GAAP) is mandatory.
- Experience in real estate is an asset, but not required.
- Experience in Yardi is an asset, but not required.
- Strong communicator and excellent time management skills.
- Well-developed attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Aptitude to leverage technology to gain efficiencies and improve processes.
- Drive to get work completed in a timely manner.
- Willingness to go above-and-beyond assigned responsibilities.
