THE ROLE

Our client is renowned in the marine industry, with revenues surpassing $100mil. They are a global provider of flexible, full-service floating accommodations and marine transport solutions.They customize services to the exact needs and locations of clients, ensuring that solutions precisely meet specifications, including logistics, crew transfers, housekeeping, catering and the fulfillment of all HSE requirements. They also specialize in refitting and refurbishing vessels tofulfill requirements in a range of sectors from major construction projects to natural resources and energy production. They are looking for anAssistant Controllerwho is adaptable and focused for theirVancouverlocation.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Corporate Controller, with responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Monthly Financial Reporting

  • Oversee and complete the timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Analyze and interpret monthly financial data, highlighting trends, deviations, and areas requiring attention.
  • Collaborate and lead finance team to ensure accurate recording of financial transactions and reconcile any discrepancies.

Quarterly Performance Analysis

  • Prepare comprehensive financial analyses for quarterly performance reviews.
  • Work with department heads to gather relevant financial data for performance evaluation.
  • Assist with preparing financial performance to the Director, Finance and President, providing insights into key metrics and areas for improvement.
  • Evaluation and analysis of quarterly and annual reporting covenants as requested by the groups bankers.

Annual Financial Preparations

  • Lead the process of compiling data and preparing financial statements for the annual reporting cycle.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate the audit process, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and accuracy of financial information.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, incorporating insights from historical data and anticipated business developments.

Team Leadership & Support

  • Maintain a strong working relationship with finance team and other departments to ensure seamless coordination between financial reporting and day-to-day financial operations.
  • Provide guidance on accounting treatments, financial controls, and process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Reporting & Communication

  • Report financial results, trends, and analyses
  • Communicate financial insights in a clear and actionable manner to support strategic decision-making.

Compliance & Regulations

  • Develop and implement financial strategies, plans and procedures to ensure the companies financial health and compliance
  • Stay updated on accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance in financial reporting.
  • Implement internal controls to safeguard financial data, assets and mitigate financial risks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial reporting, analysis, and accounting.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Previous experience going through an accounting software change is an asset
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, including ERP systems and spreadsheet applications.
  • Experience with multiple operations and foreign currency.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Strong communication skills to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
