The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Community Planning Manager in either our Vancouver or Surrey office to lead transformative projects that drive sustainable growth across communities in Canada. In this role, you will develop and implement comprehensive plans encompassing land use, transportation, environmental stewardship, social and cultural needs, working in close collaboration with clients to align project outcomes with community visions. You will oversee project management initiatives, guide infrastructure upgrades, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive growth plans and strategies encompassing land use, transportation, environment, social and cultural needs, infrastructure, business, and neighborhood development.
- Conduct consultations and engage stakeholders, working closely with clients to align project goals with community visions and objectives.
- Manage infrastructure and service upgrades associated with new developments.
- Mentor and support a diverse team of professionals.
- Implement best practices in community and Indigenous planning to deliver culturally relevant, sustainable solutions.
- Advise clients and stakeholders on regulatory compliance and policy approaches for sustainable community development.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, architecture, survey, and environmental services, to integrate multidisciplinary insights into planning projects.
- Conduct research on demographic trends, land use, economic indicators, and environmental factors to support planning recommendations.
- Analyze and present data through reports, presentations, and visual materials to aid in decision-making for clients and community leaders.
- Develop plans for environmental conservation, including wildlife reserves, national and provincial parks, and watershed protection.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Over 4 years of experience in community planning or consulting roles.
- Master's degree in Community Planning, Urban Design, Public Policy, Geography, or a related field.
- Registered, or eligible for registration, as an RPP or MCIP.
- Proven experience working with local governments and Indigenous communities on various projects.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel within the Lower Mainland and British Columbia for project work, including community visits.
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver's license.
- Experience with local government policy and bylaw development.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experienced with planning and design software such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Familiar with project management tools like Microsoft Project.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $125,000 per year, commensurate with experience, skillsets, and qualifications.
