Summary:
FET Variperm is a class leading service and supply company specializing in sand control engineering, completion and work-over tools and cased hole fishing services. The Machinist will produce machined parts by programming, setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) and manual heavy machinery, along with other shop equipment as required. Responsible for following and performing quality control activities, along with following all safety procedures.
Work Schedule:
Hours of work are 6AM to 2:30PM. Overtime as needed.
Duties:
- Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances
- Programs mills and lathes in G code by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry and trigonometry; proving part programs
- Sets-up lathes and mills by installing and adjusting three - and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such micrometers and Vernier calipers, adhering to international standards
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; reporting need for repair.
- Ensure parts adhere to quality requirements
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
- Other duties as required
Competencies
- Follow and understand both oral and written instructions in English
- Adhere to health, safety, and quality policies, along with all other company policies and procedures
- Grade 12 basic math skills

- Participate in training and safety meetings as required
- Perform quality control inspections on products as required

Qualifications/Requirements
- Grade 12 or GED equivalent
- A Journeyperson Ticket or Apprenticeship a strong asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience running Johnford, Puma, Mazak, Weiler, Hurco an asset.
- Forklift and overhead crane training or experience an asset
- Stand or walk for long periods of time
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs, lift items weighing more than 50 lbs with assistance from other workers, forklift and/or overhead hoist
- Exposure to fine dust and airborne particles, high noise level
- Good physical fitness
