POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Controller will support the Director of Administration/Finance in managing the financial activities of the Sq'éwqel Development Corporation and its entities. This role will involve overseeing accounting operations, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and contributing to the financial planning and strategy of the organization.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Work closely with the Director of Finance to manage and coordinate the overall financial administration of multiple entities.
  • Ensure the timely preparation of month-end financial statements.
  • Produce reports, analysis and any summary information required by internal stakeholders.
  • Assisting with the annual budgets, forecasting, and all aspects of the year-end audit and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain various schedules such as fixed assets, amortization schedules, supporting schedules, and month-end adjusting entries.
  • Work closely with the accounts payable and ensure the accuracy of expenditures.
  • Support the inventory and material costing process.
  • Work with cross-functional teams across all departments.
  • Recommend improvements in processes and procedures.
  • Work directly with project teams to create and continuously refine project financial models and proformas.
  • Source financial data and collects pertinent information from which to build a reliable project model (financial and project development due diligence and feasibility work).
  • Manages and owns project proformas through all phases of the decision-making process.
  • Develops and maintains strong working knowledge of each project from development and financial standpoint.
  • Estimates new and proposed product costs and maintains Cost Accounting System.
  • Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Director of Administration/Finance as needed.
  • Provide support to payroll as required.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA certification, or nearing completion, preferred.

Other Skills/Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in accounting withing the construction industry, hotel and hospitality industry, tenancy industry, or business development industry.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and strong knowledge of GAAP and financial regulations.
  • Knowledge of accounting information systems, including experience with Sage 300.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Valid BC Driver's License; Class 5 & clean Driver's Abstract
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Knowledge, respect, and understanding of Stó꞉lō culture, history, traditions, and language or willingness to learn is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities is considered an asset.
