Key Responsibilities:
- Application Development:
- Develop applications for operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining chemical automation technologies (e.g., DirectInject-LC, self-driving labs).
- Transition development-stage software into commercial-ready applications, ensuring ease of use and robustness.
- Automation Technology Development:
- Collaborate with hardware and chemistry teams to design, develop, and optimize new automation technologies for chemistry workflows.
- Enhance the robustness and flexibility of hardware and software modules, including automated chemical synthesis, analysis modules, and sample translocation systems.
- Integrate automation solutions into experimental workflows in partnership with chemists and process engineers.
- Develop and implement experimental protocols for testing new automation technologies.
- Systems Integration and Maintenance:
- Oversee software integration of automation systems with existing laboratory equipment and processes.
- Technical Communication:
- Prepare research presentations, including data visualizations, for both technical audiences and the general public.
- Work with computer science colleagues on data curation and visualization.
- Support the development of technical grant proposals and the preparation of technical manuscripts.
- Lab Safety:
- Adhere to safety protocols, including chemical material handling, environmental management, and safety record maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Software Engineering, Automation Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Master's or doctoral degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in designing, developing, and implementing automation technologies, ideally in a chemistry or laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in Python, C++, C#, Linux environments, and Windows .NET framework.
- Experience in interfacing with APIs and debugging code.
- Proven experience in designing and executing automated chemistry workflows, including self-driving laboratories.
- Familiarity with UPLC/HPLC instruments, Chromatography Data Systems, and related applications.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and teamwork skills.
- Strong analytical, creative problem-solving, and project management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: CAD $85,000 - $120,000
- Employment Type: Full-time Employee
- Benefits: Eligible for extended health benefits program
- Vacation: 15 days per year, with 1 additional day each subsequent year of service, up to a maximum of 20 days.
