Key Responsibilities:
- Automation Technology Development:
- Design, prototype, and optimize new automation technologies for chemistry workflows in self-driving labs.
- Enhance robustness and flexibility of custom or commercial hardware/software modules, including automated chemical synthesis and analysis modules, as well as sample translocation systems.
- Collaborate with chemists and process engineers to integrate automation solutions into experimental workflows.
- Develop and implement experimental protocols for testing new automation technologies.
- Systems Integration and Maintenance:
- Integrate automation systems with existing lab equipment and processes.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade automation platforms, including robotic systems and high-performance analytical instruments.
- Technical Communication:
- Prepare research presentations with clear data visualizations.
- Collaborate with computer science colleagues for data curation and visualization.
- Support the development of technical grant proposals and manuscripts.
- Lab Safety:
- Adhere to safety protocols, including chemical material handling, environmental management, and safety record maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics, Automation Engineering, Chemistry, or related fields.
- Master's or doctoral degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in automation technology design and implementation, preferably in a chemistry or lab setting.
- Proficient in Python, API interfacing, and code debugging.
- Experienced with parametric CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
- Strong skills in electronics and lab equipment debugging.
- Experience with UPLC/HPLC instruments and chromatography data systems.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and teamwork skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: CAD $85,000 - $120,000
- Employment Status: Full-time Employee
- Benefits: Eligible for extended health benefits program
- Vacation: 15 days per year, increasing by 1 day each year of service, up to a maximum of 20 days.
