The Project Technical Engineer is responsible for supporting the technical aspects of constructing a project by applying their expertise and knowledge in civil construction methodologies and equipment, and administratively managing the design efforts of Michel's technical consultants. In addition, they will manage content of the technical submissions to the Owner. Primary focus will be on managing the design-build efforts, or the limited construction design efforts for Michels Canada Infrastructure projects. This position supports the execution of complex tasks in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a collaborative and supportive environment for team members. This position will be based out of our Project office located in South Edmonton.

This position will be based out of our Project office located in South Edmonton.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Prepares and updates engineering control documents.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective construction strategies.
- Generate relevant Request for Information (RFI), submittals and working plans
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
- Generate subcontract work packages including, scopes of work, drawings and specifications and assist in the evaluation of proposals and awarding of subcontract work.
- Monitor and manage the supply and distribution of construction permanent materials required for construction operations.
- Collaborate with the field supervision to develop field installation work plans and provide technical input.
- Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing construction operations, including data analysis, progress tracking, and any deviations from expected outcomes.
- Conduct regular quality control checks to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Manage subcontractors during operations, ensure compliance with execution plans, schedule, coordinate all logistics require to perform their work, review sub-contractor scope in detail and highlighted during kick-off meeting and other regular operation meeting with sub, review and verify all sub payment, change order and claims.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the tunneling team, including training and mentoring junior staff members.
- Uphold company culture and core values by adhering to Michels Canada's Standards and Policies and working with others to promote and preserve our values while conducting your duties to contribute to a positive and professional work environment.

Requirements:
- Engineering degree in specific discipline with 4-6 years' experience or Tech diploma with 6-8 years related experience
- Proven experience in microtunneling or civil utility construction projects, with a focus on water and sewer or trenchless areas
- Familiarity with geotechnical engineering principles and soil mechanics
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make quick decisions in a fast-paced construction environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Proficiency in relevant software applications and engineering tools
- A commitment to maintaining high safety standards and promoting a culture of safety among team members
- Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven, and an acceptable driving record as determined by Michels Review Team.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English.
