Position Purpose:

Responsible for monitoring and supervising facility swim times, facility swim tests, emergency rescues and first aid as required, completion of accident/incident reports, and promoting a friendly environment through public education and rule enforcement. Minimum Qualifications:

  • 16 years of age minimum.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR “C”.
  • Current AED certification.
  • Current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certificate.
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC), deemed as satisfactory by the Town.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Lifeguard

Division: Active Living and Aquatics Supervisor

Department: Community Services

Employee Group: Sessional

Reports To: Active Living and Aquatics Supervisor

Position #: SS2

Primary Function:

Responsible for monitoring and supervising facility swim times, facility swim tests, emergency rescues and first aid as required, completion of accident/ incident reports, and promoting a friendly environment through public education and rule enforcement.

Supervision Received:

Aquatic Supervisor, Aquatic Programmer, and Head lifeguard.

Working Procedures:

  • Be aware of and comply with all admission policies, regulations and legislations pertaining to the operations of an aquatic facility.
  • Supervises pool and deck areas at all times to standard set by the Ministry of Health, Lifesaving Society and the Town of Georgina.
  • Enforces rules through public education.
  • Performs or assists with emergency rescues or first aid as necessary.
  • Fills out accident/ incident reports as required.
  • Attends and participates in all staff training sessions.
  • Keeps up to date by checking staff bulletin boards and logbooks to be informed of new information and procedures.
  • Fully dressed in staff uniform during all assigned hours.
  • Prepared to work flexible hours, including shifts and weekends.
  • Suggest ways in which to improve aquatic programs.
  • Reports any facility safety hazards to supervisor on duty or full-time staff.
  • Assists with general pool and area upkeep and cleaning as required.
  • Promotes positive public relations at all times, enforcing pool rules firmly and tactfully.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned that are in accordance with job responsibilities or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.
  • Qualifications kept current.
  • Ensures all standards of Lifesaving Society, National Lifeguard Service and Standard First Aid are being followed.

Skills/ Knowledge Requirements:
