Sync Robotics is expanding their talented team of individuals and is currently seeking an Automation Engineer/Technologist, who specializes in designing, implementing, and maintaining control systems for robotic and automation systems to join their Vancouver, BC based team remotely. This role is a great opportunity for someone with 2+ years of related experience and education! As the successful candidate, you are interested in learning more about creating and integrating a full suite of automation solutions, from robot system integration, PLC and HMI programming, smart sensor integration, machine vision integration, implementation of SCADA systems and more. You have a strong aptitude in developing and commissioning PLC programs (Allen-Bradley and Beckhoff PLC), with a keen eye for detail and a passion for innovation. Key responsibilities will include:
  • Design, update and implement new and existing controls systems to improve production efficiency and quality;
  • Develop control system's technical documentation such as control narratives;
  • Develop and program PLCs for automation systems;
  • Design and develop HMI interfaces for user-friendly control;
  • Create and implement SCADA systems for monitoring and data acquisition;
  • Program and configure Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs);
  • Conduct system commissioning, including testing and troubleshooting.
  • Provide on-site and remote support for client hardware and software.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with equipment and software.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting to identify and fix issues.
  • Conduct PLC troubleshooting to ensure system reliability.
  • Replace and commission Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) as needed.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate and optimize control systems.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends in automation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, confirming control systems meet required safety guidelines.
  • Conduct testing and validation of new systems, ensuring they meet performance and safety standards;
  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset and proactively suggest solutions to product performance and reliability;
  • Train and support clients and team members on the proper use of automated systems;
  • Conduct risk assessments on control systems and processes to identify potential hazards and implement risk mitigation measures;
  • Such other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be communicated by the Employer to the Employee from time to time.

Requirements
  • Related post-secondary education is required. Examples of related education are bachelor's degree in engineering (robotics, mechatronics, mechanical or electrical); electronics technologist diploma with related experience in robotics and automation;
  • 2+ years of proven experience in a similar role, experience in robotics or similar design;
  • Experience developing and commissioning PLC programs, Allen-Bradley and Beckhoff PLC experience preferred;
  • Experience setting up and commissioning VFD systems, experience with SEW & Rockwell VFDs preferred;
  • Experience operating independently on site at client facilities;
  • Experience with Ignition & RS View Studio preferred;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, and customer service skills and a collaborative work style;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team;
  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time;
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, innovative environment;
  • Strong computer literacy, including excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to work periodic overtime is required;
  • Ability to regularly travel internationally, nationally, and locally to client sites and trade shows is required. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required.
