POSITION DESCRIPTION
As an important member of the Synergex Business Unit team within the Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) portfolio at FOG Software, you will assist with month-end closing activities, analysis of key performance metrics and operations, and be heavily involved in financial and management reporting of the portfolio business unit (BU). You will also be expected to be a key business partner to the Synergex functional teams for day to day accounting and financial analysis, and have opportunity to be on the senior leadership team strategy meetings.
The ideal candidate is driven to perform, is results-oriented and has a hands-on approach to solving problems. In addition, they should have excellent business acumen and attention to detail, to ensure that issues are resolved on a timely basis. The ability and interest in working in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment will be important for success in the role.
Requirements
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Management Reporting
- Prepare and consolidate monthly financial packages for management and provide value-added analysis and commentary of BU P&L performance
- Understand the business units' financials through reviewing of variances to forecast and actuals, summarizing root causes, then reporting findings in a concise manner to head office finance
- Compile quarterly disclosure packages ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial statement note disclosures of key risk accounts that feed up to external reporting
- Prepare monthly/quarterly key metric deliverables to drive insights, including detailed attrition analysis, consolidated recurring revenue rolls, significant upcoming renewal walls
- Own the entire P&L forecast roll up process for the BU, from gathering and inputting of data into the financial system to recognizing and providing insightful patterns of rolling forecast changes
- Seamlessly interact with other businesses within FOG/VELA/Constellation to ensure proper elimination of intercompany transactions on a monthly basis for consolidations
- Business process improvements such as creation of monthly checks to ensure unwavering accuracy and compliance of subledgers and books to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Collaborate proactively with head office, internal, and external auditors during interim reviews and year-end audits to gather and present accurate supporting documents
- Take on ad-hoc financial reporting as requested such as target subject deep dives and provide meaningful insights and define key risk or improvement areas
- Proactively escalate and manage up to head office any accounting or operational finance issues to note
Business Unit Controllership (Financial Reporting)
- Own the full accounting cycle journal entries from Order to Cash, as well as Procure to Pay
- Monitor cash flow of business unit via initiating payments and wires, expense management, and excess cash forecasting
- Month end completion of balance sheet reconciliations leaving no unreconciled differences
- Monthly reconciliation of local system accounting system to centralized accounting system leaving no unreconciled differences
- Continuously exercise professional skepticism and judgement to ensure accounting policy and internal control adherence, mitigating financial & reporting risks
- Find efficiencies on current reporting processes to ensure concise reporting and automating reports where inefficiencies are identified
- Work with offshore team to create and send invoices to customers during the month and ensure timely collection of cash receipts
- Ensure compliance with US sale tax laws and prepare and submit filings to local jurisdictions as appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS
- Business/Finance/Accounting degree (i.e. BBA, Comm. etc.), and completion an accounting designation (CPA)
- 3-5 years of progressive in an accounting or finance role in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced excel skills with the ability to efficiently handle large data sets and concisely present and summarize for management review
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills with ability to adjust and respond professionally to changing priorities
- Professional strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to interact with all levels of management
- Proactive attitude, and analytical thinker who is able to drive business initiatives end to end
- Experience with Great Plains, SAP BPC, and Sage Intacct an asset
- Can-do attitude, ability to set goals and develop schedules to tackle completing deliverables
