IT Technician

Salary: 2024 Salary Range: $66,477 to $77,768 with full benefit package and pension

The IT Technician will assist with the maintenance and progressive development of various municipal information, technology and communications systems across SDG.

Main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the administration of the centralized SDG-wide municipal network, Geographic Information System network, Provincial Offences Department network, and Library network. Assist with maintaining Users, including secure access to specific data, file sharing, login parameters and security restrictions.
  • Be familiar with Township systems and assist with technology enhancements to maximize efficiencies, increase standardization, improve security, and reduce IT issues.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for hardware, software and peripherals to County Departments and Township Users. Assist with developing and maintaining a formalized helpdesk system.
  • Perform network administration functions when required.
  • Assist with researching, developing and implementing technological advancements and best practices to streamline business processes, share information, and improve integration. Remain current on new technologies, initiatives and best practices. Develops solutions to problems from factual backgrounds and fundamental principles. Evaluate new technologies that may benefit County or Township Users. Determine business needs and provide cost-effective technical solutions as required.
  • Maintain hardware/software replacement plan, coordinate joint purchases, assist with leasing process and configure new units for use. Assist with obtaining vendor support when required, maintaining proper licensing, warranties, antivirus, security and backup process. Coordinate maintenance of technology equipment and communication tools (ex. phones, copiers, faxes, printers, GPS, etc.)
  • Coordinate communication and flow of information on IT projects and plans with Users. Provide feedback to
    Users on troubleshooting activities including expected timing of resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in computer technology, network systems, computer engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of two years closely related experience in computer technology.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting computer systems with the skill to analyze issues, identify possible problems and take corrective action. Knowledge of current server/desktop operating systems, networking technology, exchange, SQL, Microsoft Office Suites, routers, firewalls and switches.
  • Logical thinker with strong communication, organizational, analytical and customer service skills.
  • Valid Driver's Licence.
  • Ability to provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
