The Settlement Worker is required to work Monday to Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Shelter and Respite Services, the Settlement Worker will play a pivotal role in coordinating the day-to-day operations of the department, with a specific focus on refugee and asylum seekers. The role involves providing 24-hour support and providing referrals to newcomers ensuring program adherence to standards and contributing to the organization's mission and vision.
Duties and Responsibilities

Program Delivery:

  • Provide settlement support, information and orientation services to newcomers to facilitate adjustment to the settlement process.
  • Determine newcomers' eligibility, assess their settlement needs and goals and refer them for appropriate legal help, medical services, financial assistance, employment and community support.
  • Facilitate internal and external referrals to services.
  • Act as the focal point and coordinate for clients' support across the program.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the settlement and community connections programs, ensuring compliance with program standards.
  • Keep up to date on community resources and issues affecting immigrants and refugees.
  • Work with the Supervisor, Settlement Services and other Settlement Workers and maintain effective working relationships with key supports and resources in the community.
  • Support in the early phases of refugee determination process.
  • Advocate for clients and facilitate access to various services.

Reporting:

  • Liaise with community service providers and professionals to coordinate service provision and represent the organization in external events.
  • Document and report standardized client information obtained as part of the initial eligibility, ongoing/periodic and exit assessments.
  • Prepare and submit statistics and reports, when required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Social Work or Community Work, or related field and a minimum of 1 years of related experience, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Second language will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of community development principles in settlement and community programs.
  • Knowledge of services, information, and issues affecting refugee newcomers supplemented by a broad knowledge of community resources.
  • Excellent communication skills, sensitivity to ethno-cultural programming, and multicultural issues.
  • Ability to use judgment to interpret and apply policies and procedures consistently.
  • Good time management, administrative, organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Proficiency in both verbal and written English; proficiency in a second language is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the settlement department in various capacities, including grant writing and external events.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear' or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
  • Must have up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
