Our client is a market leader in manufacturing household products in looking for a Senior Plant Manager for one of their locations based in the Greater Toronto Area. Reporting to the General Manager, Operations, this position will be an integral component of the Manufacturing and Operations department.This role is responsible for overseeing all areas of the production process at their GTA manufacturing location so that approved products are manufactured on-schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives. This role leads the plant organization to improve the overall production process, product quality, cost outcomes, and culture.
Responsibilities:
- Develop the manufacturing plan and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
- Achieve optimum employee levels with least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan.
- Formulate and implement manufacturing policies and programs that guide the facility in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
- Direct and monitor department supervisors to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan, consistent with established manufacturing and safety procedures.
- Hire, train, develop and evaluate staff to include performance management, conflict resolution, discipline, and coaching.
- Ensure compliance with current federal, provincial and local regulations. Consult with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
- Identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap, and rework data.
- Direct the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of production standards.
- Direct and coordinate various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.)
- Initiate and coordinate major projects, (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).
- Work effectively and relate well with others. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
- Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.

- Proven ability to establish metrics for key areas of measurement and hold teams accountable to achieve or exceed these goals.
- Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends.
- Previous experience/best practices implementing and using continuous improvement/lean tools such as; Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, etc. to drive improvement.
- Previous experience/broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies.
- Demonstrated strong leadership, team building, and advanced coaching skills.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with the strong ability to be adaptable and flexible.
- Ability to work with teams and lead decision-making processes in a team environment.
- Highly motivated, results oriented, driven.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in manufacturing management to include 3+ years as a superintendent or manufacturing manager.
- Labor relations/union experience is strongly preferred, but not required
- Demonstrated success with team building, change management, continuous improvement, conflict management, and driving cost performance are non-negotiable
- Outstanding communication skills (oral, written, presentation) are required

- Degree in Engineering or other related field is required.
- Preferred qualifications include Master's degree, Six Sigma, Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
