EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (FULL-TIME)

DEADLINE: AUGUST 28, 2024

REPORTING TO: DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

WAGE: BASED ON QUALIFICATIONS

The Economic Development Officer will be responsible for leading and implementing strategies that promote economic growth and development within the community. This role involves collaborating with Band leadership, community members, and external partners to identify opportunities, develop projects, and secure resources that align with our community's vision and goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement economic development plans and strategies that support the Band's economic goals and cultural values.
  • Provide assistance to existing businesses within the community and support the establishment of new enterprises. Identify opportunities for business expansion and diversification.
  • Work closely with Band leadership, community members, and other stakeholders to ensure that economic development initiatives reflect the needs and priorities of the community.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of economic development projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Identify and apply for funding opportunities, including grants and other financial resources. Manage and report on funded projects.
  • Conduct research and analyze economic data to inform decision-making and strategy development. Prepare reports and presentations for the Band Council and other stakeholders.
  • Advocate for and help develop policies and programs that support economic growth and align with community goals and regulations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economic Development, Business Administration, Community Development, Public Administration, or a related field. Master's degree is an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in economic development, business management, or a related field, preferably with Indigenous communities.
  • Strong understanding of economic development principles, project management, and business practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including Band leadership, community members, and external partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with economic development software and tools.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and community dynamics is highly valued.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
