Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Packaging Line Mechanic to join our team as a Maintenance Supervisor.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting with all Maintenance functions as well as supervising the maintenance staff that perform maintenance, service and repairs to equipment on the padding line with a strong emphasis on our padding lines and general maintenance tasks.

This role will require the candidate to spend approximately 80% of their time on hands-on maintenance and repair of padding lines, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime. The remaining 20% will involve administrative and office duties related to the maintenance and operations department. The successful candidate will monitor equipment for performance, safety, and effectiveness and coordinate resources for troubleshooting and repairs. The supervisor will also oversee and ensure preventive maintenance is completed on the equipment and work with other team members to ensure smooth and efficient production operations. This position will also assist the Plant Manager with overall building maintenance and other assignments as required. Flexibility to cover afternoon shifts when required and a willingness to work overtime on weekdays and weekends are essential for this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and participate in the setup, adjustment, repair, and maintenance of padding lines and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ensure ongoing adjustments and repairs to maintain productivity and efficiency of the machines throughout the shift.
  • Ensure the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on all production equipment and support equipment, following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and SOPs.
  • Conduct and oversee regular preventive maintenance programs for all padding lines.
  • Ensure safety protocols, including proper functioning of safety guards and emergency stop devices, are always followed.
  • Adhere to lockout/tagout procedures and ensure compliance within the maintenance team.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe maintenance shop and facility.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for mechanical issues, devising quick and innovative solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Oversee inventory management for equipment, parts, and supplies; anticipate needs and place orders to maintain stock.
  • Provide customer-oriented support in resolving equipment-related issues promptly.
  • Assist with production line changeovers and verify equipment readiness.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the production floor, monitoring equipment safety and quality risks, while supporting team members.
  • Measure and analyze hourly KPIs to optimize equipment performance and maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct regular facility walkthroughs to assess needs and prioritize maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager on building maintenance and special projects as needed.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical experience in high-speed packaging and/or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of basic electrical systems and PLCs.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics, blueprints, and operation manuals.
  • Experience managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety protocols, particularly lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a strong customer service mindset.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a positive attitude towards teamwork.
  • Flexibility to cover afternoon shifts and work overtime during weekdays and weekends as required.
  • Adaptability to shifts based on business needs.

Potential Hazards:

  • Risks include lifting, pinch points, electrical shocks, slips, and trips.
  • Must be vigilant about safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify and report hazardous conditions.
  • Always ensure adherence to lockout procedures.
  • Verify that all safety devices on padding lines are in good working order.
  • Maintain proper storage and organization of all parts and equipment.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and provide recommendations for improvements.
