ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a passionate and caring Registered Nurse to join our multidisciplinary Health care team! If you are looking to make a difference in the lives of others by providing holistic, safe, and quality nursing care, the Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) has an opportunity for you as a Registered Nurse (RN) in our community. Under the direction of the Director, Community Health and Wellness, this position will provide person-centered care services ensuring professionalism, dignity and compassion with each interaction while reflecting the shared mission, vision and values of Fort McKay First Nation.
*This is a full-time permanent position located in Fort McKay, AB and includes working days, evenings and weekends and range from 8 to 12 hours/shift.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Incorporates critical inquiry and relational practice to conduct an organized and comprehensive assessment that emphasizes patient input and the determinants of health.
  • Provides a variety of nursing services to patients including families, groups, communities, and populations within the framework of holistic professional nursing practices and the principles of primary health care.
  • Identifies nursing diagnosis based on defining characteristics presented and communicates nursing diagnosis to patient, interprofessional health care team members and other providers of care as appropriate.
  • Triage and communicate with community doctors as needed.
  • Collaborates care with other members of the nursing team and consults with other healthcare providers as needed to meet patient, family and community needs.
  • Coordinates and manages the ongoing administration of the patient-centered care plans.
  • Utilizes the nursing process, critical inquiry, problem solving and decision-making skills to provide care to individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations across the life span.
  • Conducts organized and comprehensive professional assessments of the patient's health status and determines appropriate responses and follow-up including consultation with the patient and other health care providers.
  • Provides collaborative and shared leadership within the interprofessional health care team.
  • Applies scope of practice as defined by Schedule 24 of the Health Professions Act of Alberta, Registered Nurses Profession Regulation and CARNA Standards of Practice and other guiding documents.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required
  • A valid practice permit from the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) is required.
  • Successful completion of an approved post-basic study program and BLS-C (Basic Rescuer) is required.
  • Experience working in a First Nations community setting including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values considered an asset
  • Valid class 5 Driver's License & Clean Driver's Abstract
  • Criminal record Vulnerable sector check
  • Successful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta

The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay — a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray.
