Job DescriptionPLEASE NOTE: This position is a 6 month contract offer for Parental Leave coverage with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time position at the end of the contract period, depending on performance, business needs, and other factors. While we cannot guarantee full-time employment, this opportunity provides a path for consideration.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to coordinate activities on our Health and Safety team, and to promote corporate initiatives related to continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities include:
Assist with the continuous improvement of the health, safety and environment (HSE) management system;
Work collaboratively with management, employees and contractors to identify and evaluate risks associated with hazards in the workplace and recommend changes to eliminate or control these hazards;
Organize, lead and implement health and safety training programs, recordkeeping and standardization as required;
Conduct HSE inspections/audits and provide succinct reports with sound recommendations;
Provide consultation on incident investigation, including root cause analysis and appropriate corrective/preventative action;
Prepare and submit safety statistics and other HSE reports;
Participate in return to work meetings and WSIB case management;
Coordinate the Contractor safety management program;
Provide a frequent in-plant presence to ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations; and
Perform other assigned duties as required.
Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline;
Three to five years' Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the steel fabrication or welding industry;
An expert communicator who can motivate and influence change in a multicultural workplace;
Proficiency in Google Suite or Microsoft Office;
Ability to manage multiple priorities is essential;
Knowledge of ergonomic principles;
Knowledge of contractor safety management programs; and
Understanding of conveyor systems and overhead cranes would be beneficial.
